Walking Dead 2014

What was Rick thinking, when he kissed the doctor’s wife as she passed fussy Judith back to him at the cocktail party?!

Carol’s little story was like something out of an unexpurgated Grimm’s Fairy Tale.

And what was Rick thinking when he saw the doctor with his wife the next day - and (subconsciously/) put his hand on his gun? yikes!

That whole scene with Carol scaring the bejeebus out of that kid was epic. On “Talking Dead” last night they were calling her “Scare-ol” instead of “Carol.”

I haven’t watched last nights episode yet, but at the mention of “fussy Judith”, I thought I’d mention a kind of interesting tidbit:

The twin babies that play Judith are the children of a friend of a friend. Apparently there is a calm one and one that cries a lot so when they need a baby to cry, they use the fussy one. Also my friend tells me they are hoping the girls delay starting to walk as long as possible because when they do they will loose their gig.

Carry on.

I was thinking the same thing about Rick…what was he doing? That just seemed so incredibly un-Rick like and disrespectful to her husband. We all know he’s going to turn out to be a big jerk…but Rick doesn’t know enough now to do that. Oh well,it was obvious she was flirting with him and maybe it’s just be too long for him

I’m still really confused about this group. Are they for real or not…or are we supposed to be unsure like RIck and Carol? Hard to believe Darryl wouldn’t take the gun…another suspended belief for me. It was a better show than most this season, but not as good as last week. I found it sort of a mish-mash.

What happened to Eugene? I don’t remember already! Carol was awesome! Really, she had no choice but to do that, and she was SO GOOD at it. What a different Carol than the beginning.

Why was Rick learning against the wall at the end?

Did Sasha leave permanently?
And I forget why they don’t have scaredy priest in the group?

Was the kiss an attempt by show writers to soften Rick’s character a bit? To show him reaching for a life that’s more than mere survival?

But then, we see the hand on the gun and the look on his face when he watches Jessie and her husband together. I am thinking about what he said in his interview: people measure themselves by what they can take from you. So maybe he is becoming the kind of person who takes and what he wants is Jessie…but it’s an urge he’s still fighting.

Mixed feelings about the Carol development. It’s in character for her to threaten the kid…after the murders at the prison and killing psycho girl (forget name) it’s clear that Carol will do whatever she thinks she has to survive and protect her people. But. I find it annoying that such a high stakes plan would be so poorly executed…like these characters wouldn’t know they ought to have a lookout. She might have been followed by anyone, right?

It’s a great scene, though.

Someone said at the scene near the end where Rock waves to blonde & hubby, said hubby has a W on his hand. I didn’t notce if that’s true.

What I liked about the whole Scar-ol episode was how the writers/producers took a character that I love (bad**s Carol, the liberator of Terminus and the murderer of Lizzie and Karen (among others)) and made me look at her in a different way. Sure she’s tough, and I’d definitely want her in my group in Walker World - but she’s also damaged and maybe even horrifying.

I like the change in perspective, and I still love Carol - I’m just a little more afraid of her now.

I think Carol is supposed to represent “dark side survivor” and Daryl is “light side survivor” and Rick is supposed to be in the middle, wavering.

Oh, and I love the Daryl-Aaron relationship. When Daryl was ((messily) eating spaghetti with Aaron and Eric, all I could think about was that “nothing sadder than an outdoor cat thinking he’s an indoor cat” comment from last season…

Rick leans against the wall at the end because he is drawn there by the sound of the walker…I think he is kind of riveted there by the knowledge that that dangerous world still exists and it’s right there on the other side of that barrier. The “haven” of Alexandria is something of an illusion. Like “winter is coming” in Game of Thrones. Walkers are coming. (And Wolves too).

Thanks @lurknlearn This entire town actually makes me more uncomfortable than that first one with the Sheriff.

Rick appears to be going the way of Shane - what he thought/said he could never be. There was that dramatic moment when the kid stamped the “scarlet letter” A on his hand - doesn’t get more obvious than that - and yes putting his hand unconsciously on his gun as he watched the husband walk with his wife. The group, or at least some of them, are becoming the bad guys. Looks like an interesting fracture developing between those who want to “try” and those who are waiting for the chance to shoot the place up.

I have to wonder at the blonde doctor’s wife - what exactly is she thinking? “Oh, here’s this group of wild-looking survivors that I know nothing about, it will be fun to flirt with their leader and forget to mention that I’m married.”

Still waiting for Morgan to make an entrance.

Is it just me or does Rick — and the others except for Sasha — show a frustrating lack of urgency about the need to beef up security and train AFZ (Alexandria Free Zone in comics) residents to fight?

Even in the last episode when they’re talking about security, Deanna blows it off with “there hasn’t been a need” and doesn’t get that Sasha would be a far more effective and vigilant tower guard than Spencer. (Whose idea of manning the guard tower is to prop a gun up there.)

And yet, Rick doesn’t tell Deanna right there that they saw a community invaded and burned in Richmond, which isn’t that far away. And again, no questions about who the men were who she exiled and why? After dealing with the Governor and Terminus, Rick should be having a much more brutally frank discussion with D. about what needs to be done. I guess the writers have their reasons but it bugs me.

Did you notice the shot of “Morgan Street” at the end? They keep teasing it so he must be coming.

^ Rick seemed pretty shocked that no one is up in the tower but yes, maybe he gave in too easily. He’s thinking about the affair he wants to have.

I forgot about Morgan…I did look up the neighborhood where they are filming Alexandria as I was curious if it is really in Virginia. As someone stated already it’s not, it is in suburban Atlanta where they’ve been the whole time and actually the same place that they used for Woodbury.

Also someone pointed out that the A has appeared multiple places before - like Terminus - and also resembles the anarchy A, which fits as well.

Stickler for details here: It’s Alexandria Safe Zone (ASZ) in comics.

This site has a list of the ASZ residents as depicted in the television series if you click on the television series link.

Warning…don’t link to the comics version of events…there will be spoilers. The show doesn’t follow the comics story line exactly, but there are close similarities which give too much away.
