doughill - I am impressed with your title of Super Moderator! For 27 pages, many of us have expressed extreme dislike for the white background and the more difficult to read font. Yet I can not find where any of the CC moderators or staff have touched on this topic. What are your thoughts on the white & font and are there discussions in the works to change it??? Please, please, please…

Here’s the link to the CC Upgrade FAQ: <a href=“CollegeConfidential Update FAQ - College Confidential Community - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/community-forum-issues/1609348-collegeconfidential-update-faq-p1.html

Nothing but crickets from TPTB about the blindingly white skin and small font.

@doughill I just tried clicking on the like button to get to the posts that I liked but it sent me to the posts that I made that OTHER people liked. So is there a way to mark a tag useful so that we can go back to it?

@kajon, don’t be too impressed with a title. I’m just good ol’ doughill to my friends. :)
As for the skin, we are listening to all feedback and making extensive notes on improvements. We have developers working around the clock putting in crazy hours to make any necessary adjustments. As you can imagine, a site this large is a massive undertaking and we’re working hard to provide you the best experience on the web. Thanks for being patient!

@Midhelper you are correct, this displays your posts that others found as Helpful or Liked. The functionality that you suggested is on our radar. Sorry if I was unclear.

Doug, that list is short. What tells a use how to find his/her posts, how to abort a post, delete a message, clear old PMs- and what is being worked on/yet to come (versus, “live with it, friends.”)

There could have been a pop-up window (as for new PMs) directing us to instructions.

And, what about when those hints on that FAQ link are not working for us? I appreciate that a bunch of you are trying to wrangle all this.

@lookingforward thanks so much for your understanding and patience. We can honestly feel the love that you all are giving us from afar. Although there are some things to be worked out and some voices louder than others, overall the reception has been fantastic.

The FAQ’s are a growing list of things that we are publishing as we see a number of questions come in about a specific piece of functionality.

The list of tweaks that we are making based on member feedback is an internal list so far and we promise to let you know when to expect those items as we scope them out. Thanks again for your support.

Any way you could immediately return to the same background colors, type point size, physical layout, etc. as the past format? This new stuff is impossible to read. I check in every day to see whether I can read anything, and I can’t. Make changes to how the site works, but please revert back to how the site looked–that worked for all of us.

@Kajon - most of the mods are not only learning how to use the new format as posters, but also our responsibilities as moderators (editing and deleting posts, merging, deleting and moving threads, responding to reported posts, looking out for spammers/returning banned members, etc.). We are reading your posts here, but we are not the webpage design/IT team - we have no capacity to make the changes which are being discussed; I suspect the design team has several people reading and taking notes from this thread and others; in fact, I suspect some of them worked the weekend (I have no proof) due to some of the comments that have been posted on this thread (yes, some staff have posted on this thread). I think there are several recurring requests here, and I’d bet money there’s an ever-growing list as people navigate the site, trying to learn how to use the new tools. I’m guessing there’s also a triage process in place to address the most serious issues first, such as members not being able to access the med school forums; although it doesn’t effect me, I’m sure those who participate on that forum are not happy campers.

I guess I would encourage you to give it some time. I guarantee that the posts here are being read by someone who has the authority to make changes, if possible. They just can’t possibly respond to every post; they may not even have the answer yet as to whether or not some of these changes can be made… some are more technical in nature, some content in nature and some visual in nature, the way I have perceived it. As several posters have mentioned, as they’ve spent more time here, they are starting to find their ways around; I would concur with that and would like to add in one more feature that I really like, which I haven’t seen mentioned yet - when you are writing a reply to a post, a small box appears at the bottom left of the screen every so often (I’m guessing every minute or so) that says, “Draft saved at (whatever time it is)”. This is a wonderful upgrade as it means no more ‘posts disappear’ in cyberspace, as I have read many times after someone has written a long, well-thought out response, only to have it disappear. I think in time, some of the new features will become more appreciated as members get more familiar and comfortable with them.

"…and some voices louder than others, overall the reception has been fantastic."

yerright rolling eyes

I can’t read this font on my iPhone. The cute avatars and gyrating emoticons have made CC just another social media site. It used to be a unique place where the emphasis was sharing of knowledge and ideas, now it is officially part of the ME culture. Like me, share me, promote me, give me a cute flame. Bye bye CC.

Doughill, your avatar is distracting.
That was a good tour.
:x

Why are the old political threads/section visible and yet the pre-med/med school forums that had very detailed and lengthy stickies and thousands of posts are gone?

Have been on here since before 2000, weathered all other changes, so would like to know, why?

Don’t have facebook and have NO desire to have a quick link in any post of mine.

So after all this time and SUCCESS, why?

Kat

Other posters are complaining about “all the ads.” I see no ads on my screen except a banner on the led hand side for University of Alabama. Not that I want the ads, but I just have HUGE amounts of white space on my screen. Anyone else have the same on a MacBook?

@katwkittens - the administrators are aware that the pre-med/med school fora are missing and are working to get them back up. They have not been deleted.

Overall the reception has been fantastic? Really? I have yet to see even one post that has indicated that the person feels that it’s fantastic, or even close to that. I understand the issues with it taking time to address all the complaints but it feels condescending to be told that the reception has been fantastic. There may, indeed, be some valuable new features but it appears that with the number of problems, the transition has been anything but smooth.

HarvestMoon, I agree - lots of wasted screen real estate. Not that I miss the ads, but I used to click on the Nordie’s ads once in a while thinking that maybe CC can benefit from my clicks.

With the exception of the spacing distance between posts in a thread and that the font size is a teensy light and small for my taste, I think it’s fine. I can “fix” the font issue by adjusting my resolution either with a keyboard shortcut or in my display settings. I miss the e-mail digest very much, but I’ve “found” pretty much all the prior functionality and have gotten used to it at least on a computer - haven’t tried my tablet or my phone yet. Waiting until the app is working properly. I like the draft function, the popups for fast moving threads and the increased PM box size. The flagging and some of the other forums and things with bugs will get worked out soon I’m sure.

I am finding it really irritating that logging in takes me back to the home page every time instead of the page I was on.

ETA: Also, doughill, you mentioned about two pages ago to use the new mobile site instead of the mobile app. The mobile site doesn’t work either.
