While We Were Sleeping - Upgrade

^ Switch to FireFox, I’ll tell you how to fix it. :D

I do feel as if I have eye strain from the new format and white. I actually decided to leave my ads as I just ignore them but they cut down on the white.
Also odd that when you make a new post it does not go into your bookmarks. It is necessary to touch the star before it will.

@notrichenough yes please help - I can only see 1 or 2 posts at a time. I liked spanning through a bunch of posts without having to have to scroll so much. Thank you but I really have no idea what you are talking about to fix it but I am desperate to try it.

Notrichenough - I have absolutely no clue what you are referring to or asking me to do. Remember most people, myself, included, don’t want or need to know this level of detail about running a computer. This is like telling me I need to be an auto mechanic in order to turn my radio volume up or down. I wouldn’t know what a custom.css file is if my life depended on it, and I am NOT going to risk mucking around in the bowels of my computer. Just – no. CC needs to address this problem, not make me a computer geek.

I’m wondering if those with blue or lighter eyes are having more trouble with all the white?

? Is notrichenough giving that idea to us? Or is he just mentioning what the site folks have to do?

If you are running Chrome you can do the same thing that notrichenough is doing on Firefox. You don’t have to add code lines or anything, just install a Chrome extension (called Stylebot), open it when you have a CC page up, and just mess around with the settings. The settings will show up in a box beside the page you want to change. Not terribly difficult and actually kind of fun once you start changing stuff. And you can always revert back to the default.

I only just started playing with this yesterday. There was an option for me to “Share Style on Social” so I did. I’m not sure exactly how someone else would “get” it, but I can see it on Style Social, and there’s an option to “Install Style in Stylebot” (it’s called "College Confidential), so I’m thinking that any of you could use this style if you had a Stylebot user id.

I haven’t figured out how to get screen with the replies to be blue, but I’m happy with the other changes I’ve made…user names are bigger, more posts on screen, hide the fb button, bigger/different font, the screen with the list of posts is blue…etc…

If you want more info pm me and I’ll tell you what I know. Oh and btw you can hide that stupid red edited box also. :)

Sorry, no can start installing stuff on work computers!

^^ yeah me neither. So CC will look different on my work vs home computer. Maybe that’ll make me avoid CC when I should really be working…

This is as cookbook as I can make it:

Install the FireFox browser

Under the “Tools” menu, pick “Add-ons”

In the search box in the upper right, enter Customize Your Web and search. If you don’t see it in the list, at the bottom click the “See all 174 results” link.

When you mouse over “Customize Your Web”, an “Add to FireFox” button shows up. Click it and install the add-on. It will ask you to restart the browser, do it.

Select and copy the code below, open up a text editor and past it in, and save it to a file called cc.xml .

Under “Tools”, slide across “Customize Your Web” and select “Open Configuration”. A dialog will open up.

Click the “Import” button and find the file you saved in step 5.

A confirmation window will open up, click “Import”. You should get a box that says “Scripts successfully imported”, click “OK”.

Click the “OK” button at the bottom left.

From this point every CC discussion thread will use my more compact, non-white layout.

Notsorich - will doing this affect any other web site?

NRE, I’m thinking some folks would probably like to know how to undo it if it turns out they don’t like the change. Thanks.

No, it only affects talk.collegeconfidential.com.

Tools->Customize Your Web->Open Configuration brings up the dialog. Either click the check box to disable, or select the script and delete it.

Or uninstall the add-on.

I get a message saying customize your web not available for your platform so I guess it works for pc’s only
not mac

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Too bad about the mac. :(

Thank you, notrichenough, but you have got to be kidding. No way am I mucking around like that, even if it’s copy and paste. If I wanted to be a computer person, I’d have majored in it.

I appreciate that, nre, but that is way too much effort just to browse a website lol

nre, that is pretty cool. Thanks. WAY over my head but maybe I will get my H to help me. Mainly I hope the moderators will take a serious look at this.

If you are already running FireFox, it is less than 5 minutes to do this, or wait weeks or months for the powers-that-be to modify the site.

Your call. :)>-

True. Or option C, I put no faith in the PTB and use it as motivation to continue cutting down my M-F time on here :-" lol
