Still unable to log in so I just chatted with the IT Help desk who said they have had a “recurring issue with newer accounts being delayed”. They will send a ticket to their Accounts team and they will contact me/her for more assistance.
My experienced Auburn parent friends cannot stress enough how everything there is the Hunger Games, but I am hoping that the housing process has changed enough that this logging in delay doesn’t mean my kid will live in a cardboard box 3 miles from campus (if she attends).
I think last year Auburn started doing housing time slots differently. From what I understand, there is nothing to be done right now that will affect the order.
Don’t understand how the logging delay would result in housing issues? Can’t even sign up for housing until November. Even if able to login there is nothing to do right now. I’m sure they will correct whatever issue by then.
A few years ago you could pay the housing deposit right away and housing slots were done in the order of payment received. Now it is done by a lottery within each admission round
I can tell you that there is ample safe housing immediately off campus and possibly closer to your childs class than the dorm they are looking at (except the Quad, my fav) - although they may be much more expensive, I really don’t know. I thought the dorms were expensive and that was 11 years ago. Point being, now there are lots of apartments right off campus around the restaurants and shops, where there were not any 11 years ago. We go down regularly in the fall and spring and have seen it change drastically for the better and not so better (took away the lovely village vibe with all the apartments).
Yes, thanks, you are right! I was being somewhat facetious about the housing but our tour guide last spring did point out apartments as close as some dorms.
A piece of advice- for those of you who are out of state and more than 6 hours away, have your kid apply for the Out of state RLC dorm. It is AWESOME!! It is newly renovated and the best location (quad) which is close to everything. My student loves living there and has become super close with the other residents. There is a required 2 credit class first semester but it is an easy class, is with 20 kids from the dorm and really just orients then to the ins and outs of life at Auburn. You apply and then find out before housing selection day starts. You can accept or decline. You can then see others who are also in RLC to find roommate matches. They have RLC for honors, out of state, engineering, etc. Def worth it.
Students have to apply to the honors college. The invitation to apply goes out with acceptance or shortly thereafter. The first round of honors decisions usually are announced in mid December.
Has anyone received an invitation to apply to Honors yet? The website indicates invites are sent via email at the time of acceptance. My daughter meets the invitation threshold but we haven’t seen an email.
We visited last February and had a freshman student from my son’s high school show us around. She did not get on-campus housing (she decided to go to Auburn late) and we went to her apartment in addition to a dorm in the Villages (I think). The apartment was basically like living on campus in terms of location. It was very close and very nice. Having said that, I definitely think on-campus is better especially if it is more like a typical dorm (which I know is not the case for some as well and that they are more like mini-apartments/suites).
Accepted OOS
3.78/94.4 weighted GPA
34 ACT (36 read, 35 eng, 34 math, 32 science), 1 test
2 AP 11th (5’s), 3 AP 12th
Kid was told that for EA1, all that is considered is GPA and test scores so rest of app irrelevant
In SCOIR, for our high school, 100% are accepted over a certain GPA/Test score; just below a certain GPA/Test score, kids are all deferred and further below those stats, kids are rejected. It doesn’t appear Auburn plays the yield game (e.g., turning down a highly qualified candidate because it’s unlikely the kid will attend) and the chart with clear cut offs supports our counselor’s feedback that Auburn doesn’t look at essays/extracurric etc for EA1 (no idea if that changes for future rounds). Of course, the “line” could move a bit each year (a little higher or lower stats for this first round stats only based decision).
Hopefully this is helpful to those applying in the future (with the caveat that some schools are exponentially harder or easier to get into one year versus another for many reasons, so just because something has been true the last 5 years, doesn’t mean it will continute to hold). However, as of now, it appears that if the stats are within the boundary, applying EA 1 is helpful; if stats are borderline, seems like a deferral is likely so it’s still worth trying and if deferred, hopefully essays/recs/extracurric will make a difference when re-reviewed in the RD round. If below accepted stats FOR YOUR SCHOOL, perhaps a later round is better where the full application may be reviewed.

What’s SCOIR?
Are you stating that your high school is accepting/deferring/rejecting or referring to Auburn doing this? I just want to understand your post.
If you get a chance - share the link with your kids - Tip Off at Toomers is tonight…not sure exactly of the timeline, I’ll see if I can find it. Some country singer “Cole…somebody” is the entertainment. It is a blast of a time right at the intersection of College and Magnolia (Toomers Corner) and our 2024/2025 basketball team has a little demonstration. Lots of fun looking forward to basketball season and since football hasn’t been too hot, everyone is looking forward to. War Eagle, Baby! https://youtu.be/5WN2PJ_Qxjs The event will be broadcast on SEC+ Network.
Edit: entertainment is Cole Swindell and here’s the timeline.
