This is awesome! I will have to show my DS. Thanks for posting.
Some high schools use programs like SCOIR and Naviance to track the outcomes of their students applying to various colleges. These outcomes (accept, reject, defer, etc.) are plotted on a graph (x axis GPA, y axis test scores). We can also view the data as a list and can see if a student applied test optional (Y/N). Our school counselors harp on kids to update their final information, so we have pretty full information. The data points will show once there are enough to ensure anonymity. This means for our in state schools and certain popular colleges among our students (e.g., weāre in the southeast and a lot of kids apply to Auburn), you can see the results for 2024 only, 2023 only, etc. For some schools where few kids have applied, you need to enlarge the year filter (data goes back to 2015, but data from 2020 and below is no longer relevant given huge increases in GPA at all schools plus huge increases in test scores once test optional became the norm.
For instance, School A might have accepted everyone over x test score and x GPA. School B might only accept kids over a certain test score and GPA, but once a student is in the consideration set, they have a 1 in 2, 1 in 10 chance of being accepted. For holistic admissions schools, smaller schools, ultra selective schools, you can see that child A with a 1600 and near perfect GPA was rejected and child B with a 1550 and point lower GPA is accepted. The information is helpful to set realistic expectations based on the outcomes from your school (e.g., a kid meets the criteria from a stats perspective, but the actual decisions will be based on essays/LOR/activities/institutional priortities. Whereas for some schools, e.g., out in state schools, every kid who applies over a certain GPA/Test score is admitted, kids with certain stats are usually deferred/wait listed and mix of outcomes and below some point, usually rejected barring special circumstances like recruited athletes. That bar will be different for every college - so for our top instate school itās 35/1530 and a certain GPA. For another strong state school, the bar is not quite as high.
Regarding Auburn, it seems - at least for applicants from our high school - that for Early Action 1 (EA1), decisions are based on GPA and test scores. If a student meets a certain GPA and minimum ACT score, they may be admitted without their essays or extracurriculars being considered. I never saw the Auburn application (can apply through the common app, which includes the personal statement, or apply through Auburnās app), but I think our college counselor said there isnāt even space for an essay.
However, for Regular Decision 1 (R1), it appears (based on what Iāve read online, but I definitely do not know for sure) that they consider essays and extracurriculars and do a more holistic review. All I can say for certain is that, for students from our high school with stats below a certain GPA/test score, most are deferred (and a few with certain lower stats are rejected outright). Among the deferrals, kid A may eventually be accepted and kid B not, but Kid A has lower stats, which makes me think this is either where the holistic review comes into play OR perhaps itās based on major.
I would have found this information helpful last year when my kid was creating their college list - it can destress the process when a kid likes at least one or a few schools that are more stats based AND the kid has stats in the accept zone for that school.
Yes, there is a section on Auburnās website under Freshman Admissions Process that details exactly whatās considered for Early Action vs. the comprehensive review for Regular Decision. They have a pie chart showing how much Supporting Statement, Engagement and Service and Academics are weighted. It can be found under the Comprehensive Review Section. The Early Action info is under āWhat We Look Forā.
Wow, surprise in S25ās email this morning: heās been accepted to Auburn! Email dated 10/18. He had applied in the EA1 round and easily put in what he thought he needed to by the 9/15 deadline, but didnāt realize until 9/25 that his test scores had not come through Common App, so we had to send them through College Board. Those were delivered 9/27.
Anyway, OOS, 1520 SAT, 3.95 UW gpa/4.5 W gpa.
War Eagle!!
Thanks for the clarification and information
Has anyone gotten a housing email yet? The outlook in the app is not working
Not until November sometime
Last year, my daughter was accepted first round and received her housing email on Oct 21. Her timeslot to log in and apply was Nov 11. (For the record, she she got the exact room/floor/dorm that she wanted along with 3 roommates).
Hope this helps!
When you login to the Housing application it says opens 11/6. It also says we have not been issued a timeslot. Iām sure it will come soon.
Hi, I am wondering if we have to know which room floor dorm and roommates we want when we apply on November 6? It seems kind of premature for that! Or are we just filling out the app to āget in lineā for when the actual room selection happens in the spring?
You are just getting in line. Room selection timeslots are sent March 3rd according to the housing website.
Does anyone know when we might get the acceptance packet in the mail?
Is that still a thing? Didnāt know schools still do that.
My current Auburn student did not get his box in the mail until after May 1 (decision day). It had an Auburn flag, shakers and a few other items.
Thank you! We have gotten one from another school so I wasnāt sure how it worked with Auburn! I know UGA sends socks.
My son in 2023 did receive a mail packet after admission with information and a car magnet. We have been checking for my 2025 son but nothing yet. Not sure if the process changed?
My son last year got a letter a few weeks after. A gift comes after May 1st once they know whoās coming.
OOS
3.9 weighted GPA
1490 SAT
Animal Sciences
My daughter applied EA1 round and her SAT scores didnāt come through Common App and so we had to send them through College Board. She was told that she will not hear the decision in October but in November instead.
I wanted to check in with others here to see if others experienced something similar?
Auburn is her target school so we are anxiously waiting. She did get an invitation for War Eagle Day so I am not sure if that has anything to do with her application
Please share some thoughts and experiences, if you can.
Thank you!
I would say being invited to War Eagle is a good sign.
