It depends. If the student has the stats (GPA/SAT/ACT) that they feel are comfortable in the Admit range for what AU is targeting… submit during one of the EA’s and have an acceptance done before Thanksgiving.
If the student has stats that might be on the cusp then agree. There was a lot of confusion and dismay last year that the applicants that applied EA and went test optional didn’t know it was likely they would get deferred to RD.
Keep in mind the school will be balancing out the numbers they want to accept in RD against the yield they might expect on the EA acceptances.
Thanks for the info. We applied ED and she is not in the admit range. Out of state is very competitive. We were told the earlier the better. We were trying to just put our student in the range to not get denied. Seems like we should have waited. Do you know what % of kids just got denied in round 1?
I assume you mean EA - Auburn does not do ED. Not sure how you know what the admit range is (since it changes slightly each year) - unless she is well below those that were accepted last year.
Round 1 EA decisions have not gone out yet and in any case the school does not release acceptance %'s by round.
Yes I meant EA. On the website it had a chart that said admit/deny and the stats next to it. You can also look at common data set for any school and see the stats there. But you’re right, it would only be last years stats, but I assume it only gets more competitive.
The common data sets you’re looking at right now would be from 2 years ago. Most schools will be releasing CDS’s in the coming months for last year.
And the data in those sets gives you percentile numbers for applicants that enrolled at the school. Not data that aligns to applications accepted/declined. Even then it’s given in percentages and averages, not thresholds.
I wasn’t aware they posted hard thresholds on their website - that must be something new, not sure it was there last cycles.
You make me feel a lot better. When I look at the website I feel the majority of kids have very high GPA’s like over 4.0 and act’s that are also in the high 20’s or 30. I also know several people that did not get in last year out of state with those high scores. We are staying hopeful. Thanks for the info!
My child got their application in on the Sept 15 deadline however the application was noted in the portal as incomplete until SAT results from college board were received yesterday. So I assume that means they will be considered with the next EA round- not the Sept 15 round?
Thanks for sharing! Is this the EA1 / October 2023 stats for Fall 2024 (current Freshmen class) accepted students? Or, is this all EA for Fall 2023 start? Just making sure I am interpreting it correctly. Thanks.
This should be Fall 23 entering class, not ‘24. Schools refer to the year for which admissions is being sought since the admissions cycle spans 2 different years.
Each incoming class competes with itself, so it is certainly possible that GPA and test score averages may change a but, but likely inching up higher. The increasing test scores has absolutely impacted competitive merit scores for OOS students over the past few years.
Any insight, thoughts, opinions for OOS and if AU looks at the number of kids from each high school that apply when determining admissions? My kid’s stats are in range (4.11 W, 34 ACT, 5 APs). In the past, very few kids from our HS applied to AU and probably not in the first EA round, so I was very hopeful. This year, I know of at least 4 that applied for 9/15 EA round and there obviously may be more. Do you think they look at each kid individually or do you think they look at how many from his school applied and then decide. Any thoughts?
@drookerdm I don’t think you have anything to worry about. According to the Scoir data from our small Atlanta area private school, they accepted 13/16 applicants last year. Everyone with an ACT over 26 got in. All of them applied early action, but there is no information about which early round they applied. Hang in there, your students stats are above average for Auburn. You should have happy news in about a week or so. War Eagle
