My S25 submitted application and all unofficial documents with the app on 8/1. Official Test was received 8/7 and official transcript received 9/13. Maybe they don’t recalculate all GPAs, which doesn’t make sense to me. It’s out of our hands, so there’s no point worrying about it, but I am curious.
Curious if he is from a high school that they already have established info about. My daughter is at one OOS from where historically a lot of kids apply to Auburn. Thinking maybe that’s why they didn’t recalculate ours?
She is from a high school that a lot of kids apply from in GA. Fortunately her GPA is still above the average admit statistics without honors weighting but it doesn’t seem right that she gets compared to students who get to use honors weight. She asked her admissions counselor so we will see what they say.
S25 is also from a school/district in GA that sends a lot of kids to Auburn and uses a 100 point scale. No GPA showing in portal.
S25 has a gpa showing now in his portal. It’s his weighted gpa, not recalculated as far as I can tell.
Here is the response from Auburn…
Thank you for reaching out. Auburn recalculates all GPAs based on our own standards. While we do add weight to AP and IB classes, we do not add additional weight for honors classes in the recalculated GPA. This ensures consistency across all applicants.
So basically same GPA process as UGA? I wonder why they don’t list this formula on the website as it would be helpful information when trying to figure out where your GPA would fall, how many AP’s to take during high school, etc.
My daughter’s GPA populated within the last hour. It matches her transcript weighted GPA.
@UpstateSC3 Does that include weight for honors?
Are most posters here from southern states- SC, GA, NC? Do we think they consider state residency for OOS apps?
@ galaura So they add 1 point for AP and IB and nothing for honors? Do you know if they calculate GPA with core classes only (math, science, social studies, English)? Any idea if they include foreign languages or the arts, like band or orchestra? My S25 doesn’t show his recalculated GPA in the portal.
Well I had emailed admissions last week and just now heard back so I got two completely different answers and I think there are typos (i.e. AP would be 1 point) but they say honors is included…good grief…
Auburn University will recalculate your GPA if it’s not already on a 4.0 scale, adding .5 to AP, IB, dual enrollment, gifted, and honors grades, excluding 8th grade grades, and considering courses from grades 9-11.
EDIT - I should also add that the recalculated GPA in the portal only included core and foreign language - no electives, no 8th grade work. It is exactly the same as her UGA calculated GPA.
So one person said that honors courses got a .5 bump and someone else told you they did not? For your Auburn GPA that appears in the portal, did you have any honors courses that gave you a .5 bump or are all of your courses contributing to your weighted GPA basically AP/IB classes?
Correct - I got two different answers.
The only weight they gave her in the portal was for AP. It is exactly what her UGA GPA is. Core , Foreign Language, no electives, no 8th grade. No extra weight was given for any of her honors classes. The email from the counselor that said it was not weighted did say “Rest assured that this recalculated GPA is used fairly in our admissions process”.
Very frustrating that we cannot seem to get a straight-foreward answer.
Yes
Seems like they could just be transparent about the calculation on their website just like other schools are (UGA, UF, etc?)
Also how confident are we that EA1 decisions will be released this Friday?
Not sure. Portal changes, like what we saw today, are frequent indicators. But it may not necessarily mean this Friday. Changes to the Admitted Student page will be the best indicator, I think. When that H1 changes to “Class of 2029, You’re In….”
Can you see the recalculated GPA on the UGA portal too? My son’s is not yet showing up in Auburn portal (the area is blank/white like others). If you can see it on the UGA portal, where? Or, you just calculated on your own based on UGA’s formula and compared what you are seeing for Auburn?
@whereufrom. On the common data set it says they “consider” state residency but I think that is likely just that they consider if the student is from Alabama? I would think that if you are from a state where they do not have representation that it would be considered. I know when we visited one school (either VA Tech or Tennessee, I think, but not sure), they did not have a student from Idaho, so the person giving the presentation said that if anyone was from Idaho that they would get in slight_smile:
@drookerdm - No they do not show it on the UGA portal but UGA is very clear about how to calculate the GPA on the admissions blog. Just do a search on “recalculate GPA” and even though the original post is 2013 - the post as well as the comments below the post are still accurate.
We had calculated our UGA GPA and it is identical to what is on the portal for Auburn.
