My S25 portal shows a recalc GPA as of yesterday afternoon.
If Auburn calcs same as UGA, then per the UGA blog, they give 4 for A, 3 for B (no difference for A- vs A or B+ vs B), plus 1 pt for each AP. If you’re on a 100 pt scale, they convert to A, B - ie 90-100 is A, 80-90 is B and then apply the 4 pt scale.
5 Core classes only incl for lang. I think if you’re taking a non-core AP (AP psych for example?) that is not a core class so you don’t get an extra point and it’s not in your GPA??
They’re probably is some variation between high schools because some schools may not offer APs and then the admissions officer has to make a judgment about what classes are considered AP level work (ie large public high school offering many APs vs private school offering no APs). That’s where the school profile comes in and we are all hoping the admissions officers know each high school to properly make all of our kids “apples to apples.”
AP psych does get the extra point. It is considered core social studies. Did your recalc include honors?
UGA gives the extra point for all AP classes. They are included whether considered core (AP Psych is core SS) or not (AP Music Theory, AP Computer Science Princ, AP Seminar, AP Research).
UGA only includes core classes in the GPA calculation
That’s only partially correct. They include ALL AP classes, whether core or not. Please see comment #1 from David Graves under the blog post you shared.
Interesting. I have not heard that. What school told you that? I thought most schools consider that a a social science.
Sorry Nevermind I see it was UGA you were referring to above.
It still seems like they are only considering the AP core classes because what he lists in that comment could all be considered a “core class”. AP Computer science is math, AP art history is history. He doesn’t list AP music or AP art for example which would be electives. My take is that they are looking at 15 grades (5 core classes each year); otherwise, people could just pad their GPA with non academic electives??
Who knows? I tried to recalc my S25 GPA and couldn’t figure out how they got to the number on the portal!
For those who have an Auburn GPA showing up in their portal, do you mind sharing your test score? Curious if this indicates profiles that had a high enough test score to auto admit for EA1 or if it’s just random as they go through each application.
Since this is an Auburn thread, I won’t litter it with UGA policies. But please consult the UGA instructions in Common App, as they are very clear that all non-Core AP classes are included.
Not sure about that, there seems to be conflicting info. I wouldn’t rely on that comment and take a bunch of AP Art courses to boost my number of APs
This is from another site: "Calculating your GPA for University of Georgia (UGA) admissions requires understanding their specific GPA calculation method. UGA calculates the GPA using the following steps:
- Core Courses: UGA focuses on a “core GPA” derived from the grades you received in core academic subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language). They do not consider electives, arts, or physical education courses in this calculation."
FYI my student’s GPA is NOT showing up in portal and the ACT score is 32.
Same. No GPA and a 33 ACT. All materials were received on 8/15.
Same. My child’s GPA is blank and he had ACT of 34.
My child’s GPA IS showing up and his ACT is 32
GPA just popped up this morning on the portal. ACT was 31.
Ours too. Just now. But it is not a recalculated one. It is the weighted one from his high school transcript (which would not be the same as any recalculated one from the formulas previously discussed on this page).
Seems like things may be happening. Maybe Friday is the day?
Second Friday of October would be same as last year!
