Class of 2024 Admissions Decisions

Thank you @jdhMom

@jgwolf Yes, it is a great scholarship. Having said that, the merit chart has a 34 ACT at 4k/year. We were hoping for the 4k award, realistically expecting the 2k. Got the $500.

We don’t know how UofSC weighted his GPA. S attends a private school with a rigorous curriculum comparable to IB, but not officially IB. Looks like UofSC calculated it as standard on-level courses. Nothing we can do about it. That’s why you apply broadly, right?

We got $4k, Honors College, and instate tuition but it’s still cheaper for us to go to UNC Chapel Hill.

@ShrimpBurrito got it. My son got exactly what I thought he would get. Its really strange the way they do these awards. I noticed they had a new lower award of $22K this year. Maybe thats why some of the results dont match up because of the extra money being given out.

My D was accepted. OOS applicant. Awarded $40,700 (merit/scholarship) over 4 years.

Just curious if anyone has received notification regarding awarded FASFA amounts.

@Jlh0204 my son is in his second year as an SPTE major. The program has required business classes embedded into it: Acctg I/II, Marketing, Management, Econ, Finance. I think my son needs to add another class or 2 to have a business minor. SPTE is a great program that has grown from 736 students in 2015 to 1272 in 2019 and it is the #1 Sports Sciences program. If you have the chance to go to ASD, sit in on their presentation. It’s impressive.

Does anyone know if there is another decision date or wave approaching? My daughter applied after the priority deadline (end of January) and with no portal to check we feel a little in the dark. Thanks for any info you can share!

Sorry, ignore, wrong thread!

I saw on the OOS scholarship page from the website, that there is an academic scholarship “Recognition Award” which is a new award for 2020. There are no parameters on requirements for this award. Does anyone know anything about it?

@Jlh0204 I think its lower SAT/GPA. My sons friend got one but he was not invited to Capstone. I thought all scholarship students except Honors were invited

The stats for these scholarships have gone up like crazy over the last few years. When applying for the fall of 2018, the Merit Scholarship (lowest) required a 3.6 or 3.7 GPA and a 27 or 28 on the ACT. Now its over a 4.0 and I think a 29. It is not surprising that they added another scholarship level (to effectively replace the “old” Merit, which has become so much more competitive). I know a fair amount of kids that had the GPA but didn’t have the test scores to hit the Merit thresholds.

As for Capstone, not all non-Honors scholarship kids are invited to Capstone (unless something has changed in the last year or two).

@lastone03 - We were told by our local admissions rep today that all merit aid awards were given out last week. I guess we shouldn’t expect anything in late March/beginning of April.

@lastone03
Yep, that’s correct. It’s on their website too.
All were given out by last week.

Wondering where on the website you found this

@jgwolf

I can’t recall we’re I found it, I think it was under FAQs somewhere…but I did hear back from her admission counselor this morning who confirmed all merit awards have been issued for fall 2020 and only federal aid (FAFSA) will be sent out around 4/1.

We received an email on Wednesday titled Your Guide to Scholarships and Financial Aid. It was basically a list of FAQ. The first one was about merit aid and it said all awards notifications were sent out last week.

We were not expecting merit. DS has chosen another school with merit.

Oh yes, it was the email too that we saw the same…thank you…I couldn’t recall…

My D will most likely be accepting another school as well. Not only about the cost, we actually like the campus and program a bit better at her other final choice.

For anyone planning on visiting (like us lol)…just a little FYI about current campus situation…https://www.thestate.com/news/local/education/article241088156.html

Does anybody know If South Carolina is still on track for sending out financial aid by April 1? Any chance it might be a little earlier? We have no numbers to work on right now. Wanted to see what our bottom line will be.

My OOS daughter was accepted EA with a $40K merit scholarship but we have yet to visit. We were planning on going to Accepted Students day, but, of course that has been cancelled. I know she will not choose this school if she can’t visit the campus before May 1, and I’m sure many others are in the same position. I really hope universities extend decision day to June 1 this year.
