Clemson University Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

We are in a similar situation. Quarter grades but semester doesn’t end until end of January. My son included his 1st quarter final grades and just plans to “estimate” his 2nd quarter grades based on performance through the 1/10 deadline. Hard though since it includes midterms which can be a wildcard,

I just wrote a letter about why I wanted to go to Clemson and included updates about my extracurriculars. I got in after the defer.

I concur that they aren’t yield protecting. If they were, they wouldn’t admit the number of students that they do from our large OOS HS and then offer them so little/no merit so that they go somewhere else. I think most of the people that were deferred will still get in.

I really don’t think Clemson yield protects, many very high stat students are accepted EA.

Unfortunately deferred for oos with excellent academic credentials and a 30 ACT. Option in the deferred webpage to NOT include ACT in the upcoming review during RD. Any opinions on whether we should answer NO and opt of ACT being part of the overall package review? They obviously saw it already, can it really be unseen (unless there is a different counselor reviewing the app for the first time).

I’d keep that ACT for Clemson. It looks like many with higher scores got in EA, but a 30 is a solid score.

My child is not remotely high stats so we were surprised he got deferred and not rejected. I guess maybe there’s something about his application that intrigues them enough to look into him further?! Maybe really strong teacher recs? His common app personal statement was pretty strong and he does attend a very rigorous New England prep school so maybe they figured his grades there would be higher elsewhere?! Still can’t figure it out really. But maybe he just sends a letter of interest and lets them know generally how the trimester is going as of Jan 9?

Does anyone remember how many rec’s clemson allows to be submitted thru the common app? My son had counselor plus two teachers. If they only allowed for one letter would they possibly look at an additional one in this situation?

I’m assuming there’s no difference between waitlisted and deferred, correct?

I love EVERYTHING about Auburn! Graduated from pharmacy school here and have stayed and raised a family. My Dad is a Clemson grad and I grew up going to games there. I chose Auburn because of their pharmacy school and loved it. Clemson and Auburn have very similar vibe and family feeling. Auburn is beautiful, safe, fun. And honestly, great academics. It’s getting harder to get into Auburn. Hard to aptly describe how great it is! My child would like to spread her wings a bit and Clemson felt right to her. Not sure if she will end up there. The sting of being deferred with a 33 ACT, 4.2/4.0, and duel enrollment classes for two years, and many leadership roles at the largest public high school in Alabama (Auburn) doesn’t make sense to her. I’ve told her to just wait and let it play out…we will see.

Deferred means moving the application from EA to RD. WL means moving from RD to WL which colleges will take students from after they see how many accepted accept.

This sounds like a Tennesse app with Haslam and Chancelor. Are they really accepted to Tennessee already while being OOS?

Haslam and Chancellor’s are definitely UTK. I don’t think OOS has heard from Tennessee yet.

For the people who were deferred. Don’t worry, I think clemson’s deferral is one of the only colleges in the country where it isn’t a polite rejection. Especially if you are out of state, if you are high stats and deferred you are going to get in regular decision. They do this so they can get their instate goal.

Oh wow so there’s another layer after deferred? Didn’t realize that.

Yes, and then there is also summer start, bridge program and January start.

OOS not esp high stats. So for the life of me can’t figure out why mine wasn’t rejected lol.

This is a good point.

Interesting. I have not seen that 50% EA acceptance rate. That is the opposite of last year where there EA rate was lower than RD.

Thank you. I’m sorry for all of the questions but I had one more. Does indicating you would be open to Jan start help your chances even more? Not ideal but if Clemson is your top choice…
