Major doesn’t matter for law school. Grades and LSAT are the big movers. Have him take something he will enjoy and thus will do well. My D18 was a BS economics major at Clemson and got scholarship offers to 3 law schools in the 20-30 range.
I might be in the minority here, but your undergraduate major/degree absolutely matters. The vast majority of pre-law, pre-med, and biology majors do not matriculate to law school or medical school. Colleges don’t tell you that. They like their tuition money. Stuff happens (burnout/girlfriend/boyfriend/who knows), major in something you can earn a living at with your 4 year degree. Engineers can go to law school. Nurses can go to medical school. They can also have a great career if they decide not to.
Yup. Our daughter doesn’t know if she wants law school or business so she’s a business major and can decide on law school later.
Naive question, but can someone point me to where the “additional information” form sits on the portal?
It had to be completed by Jan 10th I believe
FYI- Daughter was deferred and was told that they won’t consider senior year grades (no mid-year grades). Not great news for us, as she is doing very well with a rigorous course load.
Curious who told you this? Was it from an admission officer? Our HS school sends mid year transcript to all schools (automatically). Just curious if they do not even look at them vs not ask for them.
I can’t confirm any of this but Clemson uses the SRAR and I wouldn’t be surprised if they only look at the final transcript. Also mid year grades trickle in and many schools that start later like in the NE may just now be submitting them. Would be difficult to compare them for some and not all. They did not ask for them for deferred students which makes me believe they don’t consider them unless a student mentions their performance in a LOCI.
If you don’t put current grades or any changes into the additional info section for deferred applicants, then what would be the point? They have to consider any updates whether it be grades or added extracurriculars.
I asked an admissions counselor about mid-year grades, and he told me they wouldn’t be considered unless your specific school has the grades processed before (I believe) January 10th
A college consultant I know, spoke with a Clemson rep and they said that the “additional info” section was for a letter of continued interest.
Yes, must be b/c we couldn’t add any attachments.
Is the decision release date still expected on 2/13?
I have heard so many different things about sending a loci… my son emailed his admission counselor about sending in a loci and he said “you can send one but we dont track interest, that space is for any additional info. that was not on your EA application”… so who knows what they take into consideration
You can probably include new info about yourself within your LOCI.
This is what my daughter did, mentioned her senior grades and things that changed senior year along with why she loved the school and how she thought she’d be a good fit. Can’t do any more than that.
Does anyone have any projection or indication of what the acceptance rate for EA was and what it might be for RD/deferred? Does Clemson typically admit a higher % of deferred applicants? Thanks.
Same, my son mainly focused on quantifiable changes since the EA app. But, hard not to put in there that Clemson is your top choice or whatever so he added that in. But sounds like they are looking more for “I got straight A’s first quarter” or “I retook the SAT and scored 50 pts higher”.
From my daughter’s admission officer: “Thank you for reaching out! When reviewing applicants (even if they are deferred) we only review grades for high school credit up until junior year since grades are not final in a students senior year until after they graduate.”
Thank you for sharing this; this must mean they “care” about continued interest and personal statements in their decision process since they offered both to deferred candidates. It also seems deferred EA applicants may benefit from this over RD applicants since they don’t have that option.
