That letter looked super-shady and had some shaky grammar. I don’t know why they’d send that.
Ong were sherlock homes right now. Lets all ignore the message and have a relaxing weekend!
This seems weird. There is no precedent for Cal not accepting off the waitlist any in-state applicants. Also, Cal’s yield has not exceeded 46% in the last decade (it hit 46% in 2014 and 2022). Unless the AO did something radically different this year, it’s unlikely they found a magic formula to significantly increase their yield-especially in light of the FAFSA f*ckup, repeal of affirmative action, and general hangover from the pandemic and its impact on the admissions process (ie switch to test-blind). I find it highly unlikely that Cal’s yield this cycle was drastically different from prior years.
Also- UCs don’t talk to anyone about their admissions process, let alone their waitlist process or status. Why would they inform just this one person? No date, no source credit, etc. The suggestion that someone from the AO disclosed this information without an official statement from the university seems highly unlikely- it would be a severe breach of NDA and confidentiality agreements that are likely part of their employment with the university.
Unless there is corroboration from other sources, this doesn’t seem very credible…
As a waitlisted student, I agree! This much investigation won’t get us anywhere. I’m just focused on living it up this summer
A friend who is a counselor shared the same email she received from Berkeley after signing up for their Berkeley Counselor Bulletin. I was stunned for all the reasons above. Just so hard to believe they’ve hit their numbers already given everything that went on this year but anything is possible.
Honestly I think it’s legit. But probably the most shocking piece of news since this whole waitlist debacle began - for all UCs not even for just UCB.
Not the news I wanted to hear today but ig this is my final sign to move on
Iris is an extremely reputable private admissions consultant with a phd from the University of California. If she’s sharing an email, it is in fact real. It is quite normal for admissions consultants & college counselors to receive info/updates on admissions and waitlist movement to assist them in providing sound guidance to their students.
wait yeah can some forum lead confirm this?
im guessing wl is basically closed
Really!! This is horrible news! My son was in the top 2% of his class when he applied. I was so hoping he would receive an offer. And if not for him, I was hoping for his amazing friends who were shut out from all the UC campuses to which they applied.
IF this is true, I think we only heard mention here of few very spots offered in the last weeks? Like a couple OOS and a couple International and zero In State?
Dang is this really the end
Where is your son going?
My daughter was top 5% of her class, got into UCSB for bio, but rejected from all other UCs, waitlisted (still) at Berkeley and UCSD.
And on the CSU side of things, rejected from CP SLO and still waitlisted at SDSU.
This year has been crazy and inexplicable.
She’s going to UCSB (unless there’s a Berkeley waitlist miracle… but even then, she might still choose SB for a better “fit”).
I understand your feeling completely. Similar situation here. If your daughter is planing to do pre-med, UCSB is perhaps a better choice. My friend’s daughter did Bio at UCSB, then went to Harvard Medical School.
This is so crazy. Daughter is waitlisted (premed / psych/ bio majors), waiting on UCSD and UCB but already committed and is attached to UCD (found a roommate etc) I think at this point we just want closure. She got into UCSB last week off the waitlist but declined. She was asked for letters of rec from UCB so a little false hope. Make it end!!!
Yes. It is crazy. UCB should prioritize in-state students.
Same here. I think UCSB has a great quality of student life which is very similar atmosphere Cal has. The only Cal doesn’t have is the beachfront with its Pacific Ocean weather…my son said it’s hardest for him to decide.
If pre-med, either UCD or UCSB is perhaps better choice than UCB, imho. It is difficult to get high GPA at UCB that hinders students to get into good medical schools.
Sorry if this is off, but does the waitlist not moving for freshman also mean bad news for transfers who have been waitlist/appealed to Berkeley
Good question. Most likely not because they are not entering the first and second year.
Freshman and Transfers are in separate admission pools so if the Freshman enrollment has met their target does not mean the Transfers will be in the same situation.
