UCLA Class of 2028 Official Thread

I don’t want to discuss furthermore but i just guess the invitation came from financial office so i think they want us to apply for financial aid . It is my opinion and we don’t know also nobody can figure out how does admission work .

I am just trying to the answer the poster’s question and many applicants received the email.

Everyone can sign up but not every one can apply everything. Some scholarships are not available, it shows “The required criteria, such as your GPA or location, is preventing you from qualifying for this opportunity.”

True, if eligible they can apply and yes there are specific requirements for many of the scholarships. What has been confusing for many posters is that not all received the email which has resulted in speculation that only a select few students can apply.

I agree and then the others followed suit. Of the UCs, UCLA, Cal, UCSB, UCR and UCSD all have their admitted student days on April 13 this year.

Both of my students are applying to UCLA and received the email invitation to apply for scholarships and for financial aid several times. One is a current senior in high school, one is a transfer. My son who is the transfer applicant, applied in 2022. Received exact same emails, attended the UCLA Alumni scholarship meeting (zoom), applied for Alumni scholarship and was NOT admitted to UCLA as a freshman. Most of the scholarships offered are pretty specific and neither of my children are qualified for the majority of them. My kids will apply for the scholarships again with the understanding that they are not an indicator of acceptance or increasing their chances of getting in. Best of luck to everyone!

I’m assuming you mean a general info meeting. Because Alum Scholarship has an interview component that is only offered to people admitted. That happens in April.

Yes. Many got emails . But there are categories so i am really not sure . Because everyone can apply, why did UCLA select some students, then why doesn’t UCLA send it to all applicants. If it is available to everyone. I know many of them who got invitation didn’t get in. We don’t talk about admission by invitation. Just wonder why didn’t ucla send invaluable invitation to everyone., accidentally?

The reason on why some applicants may have not received the email include issues with mass emails which may not reach everyone has been discussed. Also some applicants may have inadvertently opted out of receiving the emails when filling out the UC application. There will always be email problems when you have 150,000 to send out.

Bottom line is that any prospective applicant can apply to any scholarship listed on the UCLA website (exceptions Regents which are automatically awarded) if they meet the requirements and email invitation has no bearing on if they will be admitted or not.

As one of the UC Forum Champions, I am just trying to answer the questions to the best of my ability and keep posters from speculating what these emails actually mean other than being informational.

So you think that UCLA originally tried to send all applicants an invitation but it mistakenly didnt reach to many people. So my child got different scholarship without any reasons. I got it.

You got the exact same email , emails as the rest of us . There is zero correlation to anything . Apply for the alumni scholarship or don’t, it has zero impact on your child’s admission to UCLA. Sit back and relax until the third Friday in March when decisions are released . Good luck .

Hello. I wrote that i don’t think it is related to admission.
I wrote that i understand. And i am not excited by this. My daughter was waitlisted with alumni scholarship. I just wondered if she trashed scholarship applications so she was waitlisted. Anyway i am not interested in this but just in case my child started to apply . That’s it.

yes it was an informational zoom (2022)

What are the chances of admission to UCLA if a student receives an F in precalc but repeats it and receives an A, especially if applying as an engineering major but having very strong extracurricular activities?

One grade especially since the class was repeated will not make or break an applicant’s chances. Did he provide an explanation for the F in the additional comment section?

What does the rest of his application look like? With an overall admit rate of 9% with 4.9% for the College of Engineering, UCLA is a Reach school so 95% of the Engineering applicants, most being highly qualified and competitive, will be either denied or waitlisted.

Any predicted release dates?

Historically the 3rd Friday in March.
