Nice job! Would you mind sharing your stats? If not totally understand. My daughter was hopeful but I would put my daughter on the bubble.

Daughter just got email inviting her to Honors! Puts UNH back in the mix for us.
(fyi she submitted an email a few weeks ago referencing a new award and being elected captain of her varsity team, and asked it to be included in the honors consideration. It seemed to work)
For reference 3.83/4.1. Test optional, 8 AP 3 H 1 DE. Poli sci.

Good to know! UNH was only on D24’s list if she got into honors, but she was on the fence about sending an email.

Way to go! I told you they would be rolling out more
great news for your daughter. It’s going to be an exciting time to be in the Honors College as its inaugural class as a specific college (previously it was a honors program
still very reputable honors program but now will have more resources and specific focus).

For reference, my daughter’s stats for honors:

OOS
Communications major
4.4 w/ 3.85 UW
11 AP
10 Honors
33 ACT
100s of volunteer hours
Lost of clubs
Some leadership

Nice. Very impressive. Way to go! UNH is a great place.

Same thing for my daughter - she got an email a couple of days ago that she now is in Honors- yay! On the website it says that Honors comes with “meaningful merit-based scholarship above and beyond additional UNH awards” . In my daughter’s initial acceptance she got the 14k award so now do you think the Honors will include extra $ (some people above stated they got into Honors with 19k)? The extra 5k would make a big difference for us.

My daughter received the 14k scholarship as well. She was accepted in the first wave. We didn’t see any extra $ with the honors invitation though. That would be nice!

Happy to answer any questions about the Engineering college -CEPS. D is in engineering at UNH and loves it.

Neither did we, just the original $14k

Did anyone hear this story on the radio this week? Thoughts? My OOS son accepted EA with $9k discount. Good luck to all!

Meh
happens from time to time at a variety of colleges, not just UNH. UVM, UCONN, PSU all announced layoffs. My experience with academics is that its a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing. I would also take issue with it being described as “deep cuts”. UNH is financially healthy, all things being equal.

While expected (i.e. diminishing numbers of New England high school graduates), the enrollment decline at UNH is a concern.

In a message announcing the cuts to faculty and staff last week, president James Dean described how universities everywhere are in an “intense competition for students combined with rising costs for wages, goods, and services.”

“We know these challenges will persist in the coming years, and we must act to ensure that UNH is on firm financial footing,” he wrote. “Employee compensation and benefits are the university’s single largest expense line and, therefore, must be a part of a budget reset of this magnitude.”

Same trimming is happening at UVM (more extensive and deeper cuts), PSU, and UCONN. All three are far deeper than UNH.

The UVM cuts were indeed deeper, and definitely a concern. Comparatively, I’m not concerned about the UNH cuts. I’m more worried about the declining enrollment.

Yes that is a problem. All six NE flagships are dealing with this right now, more acutely than the rest of the country. Couple cold weather on top of the demographics, and it is tough.
