Curious, if any prior years’ parents are on here, how likely it is to have an increase in merit over the “at least” amount in the acceptance letter. BEYOND grateful for the acceptance, after a couple of rough deferrals this past week, but was really hoping for the next level up in merit dollars.

No, the deferral letter was pretty generic… “we would like to spend more time evaluating your application within the context of the entire applicant pool. Therefore, your application remains under active consideration”. Does not mention anything about the major or Darla Moore.

possible, not overwhelmingly probable…

OOS accepted into Risk Management (Academic Common Market major that grants in state tuition). Offered the scholarship of “up to $44K” - Can anyone confirm that the scholarship is independent of the in-state tuition reduction tied to ACM majors?

Sorry, that sucks. It’s definitely a hard process. We’ve had a deferral from UGA, a rejection from UTK, and a deferral from USC. She did get accepted at Clemson. We are OOS from far away and my eldest daughter is currently at Clemson, so I bet that played a little part in getting in.

A lot of it is such a crapshoot and everything has gotten much harder since the introduction of the common app- it’s just so easy to apply to tons of schools.

OOS, 3.73UW, 4.36W, ACT 36, 14 APs, lots of activities, including a summer research. Got “at least 100K over 4 years". Math major.

Oh wow, congrats on the Clemson acceptance! That is so exciting! I think you’re right that it’s a crapshoot from reading where everyone gets accepted/denied/deferred. It’s hard to make sense of everything! I feel bad for all the kids who put so much work into their applications to get them in EA and now they’re in the holding process for several months and will spend most of the rest of senior year not knowing what they’re doing. Sometimes we parents need to vent here so we can present the positive, keep-going, it’ll all be worth it in the end front to our kids. Sorry for everyone whose kiddo was deferred tonight, we’re there with you.

My daughter was accepted as well, for PR; similar stats, though we did not submit SAT because when I plugged into the NPC with SAT we got no money but without we got 10k/yr. However, no mention of merit in acceptance letter either, so I’m wondering if there is even a chance. Unfortunately, it’s a no go for us without 10k to soften the OOS blow:)

We also used the NPC to decide whether or not to submit scores. Merit in acceptance letter came in lower than the NPC estimated.

For those of you that used the NPC, did you use South Carolina GPA or “normal”?

Does your kid happen to go to a non-ranking school?

I converted to SC GPA scale using that link that’s been circulating.
