University of South Carolina Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

My S26 also doesn’t have fine arts. We reached out to admissions before applying and they responded something along the lines that the wouldn’t automatically deny an applicant for not having a fine arts credit like they would for an applicant missing a core academic course requirement. And that they understand that some states do not require fine arts in the high school curriculum ( I believe South Carolina does). So we decided to have him go ahead and apply. I guess we’ll see next month…

South Carolina resident. It’s not a graduation requirement in SC however since they need a certain amount of electives for the requirement our guidance counselors push 1 fine arts course Freshman year if you are planning a 4 year institute as they are probably referring to UofSC and Clemson as those are big state schools. So most kids instate take 1 course of fine arts

On our visit we asked an admissions counselor about the Fine Arts & since we are OOS & don’t have a requirement here not to worry about it.

You asked yourself this question. If you were trying to ask someone else, you might want to do it again under their post

this actually concerning given your solid credentials and got deferred.

wondering if class rank and GPA all that matters. as per their website 34-36 act is top scholars, 32-34 honors college, 29 to 32 act capstone scholars eligible range. you son is right there for honors college. they gpa 4.6 and above and below 4% rank is what seems to determine any chance.

I guess there goes our chance as well.

My son was #7 in his class out of 315. However, our school doesn’t officially report class rank. Super annoying. They had a record # of HC applicants last year. He had all the “stats”, but it was just super competitive. It all worked out. He couldn’t be any happier at UF.

I don’t know what the actual numbers were last year, but by far, the majority of students were deferred (or at least it seemed like it). But, MANY of these kids were eventually admitted in RD. We felt very lucky with my sons EA acceptance. Will be interesting to see if the same thing happens this year. But, this board is much quieter than last year.

Like you, my impression from reading this board from last year is that a surprising number of OOS were deferred EA last year, even with high stats. I wonder if they were overwhelmed by the number of applicants and just didn’t have time to get through them all last year? If that was the case, hopefully they are staffed up and have a plan to get real decisions out by mid-December. I think my D26 has a solid chance, but there are going to be many tears if she gets a deferral next month!

We have not even visited yet and this is not my dd’s top choice. I suspect if she were to be deferred it would drop off completely just because she is anxious to make progress on a decision and we wouldn’t even visit until we had more info. We will see.

Congrats to all - do any of you mind posting your kids stats? I know us OOS may have to hit a different bar, but would still be interested in hearing. Congratulations again!!! Excited for all of you!

Do you get an email or only on the portal?!

Does anyone know why some in-state kids heard today and some did not? Did the kids who heard today submit their app on the early side, like Aug./Sept.?
