Around 1300 I am guessing is the cut off. Child was 1310 OOS and waitlisted last year. Good luck.

I think you are right … we are high stats , top 6% of class , all AP and honors , clubs, volunteer you name it .
We got deferred with SAT in 1200’s which doesn’t match grades or GPA
This is what happened to me I am top 7% at a competitive highschool but my sat was in the 1200s but I figured I might’ve had a chance because I had a bunch of internships and extracurriculars
I know of kids who got waitlisted- I think there will be a lot this year - with scores in the 1200s and got in. All of you/your kids are really bright. Only so many spaces unfortunately on campus
Off topic a little bit but I’ve been wondering… have any of you gotten those generic marketing emails from UTK? I got one a couple days before EA release and I feel like that was kindve a tell I was going to get deferred.
My son is a freshman at UTK now and he was accepted last year EA for business analytics and statistics. His SAT was in the high 1200’s. He played and practiced football his entire childhood so he lacked on extracurriculars so I’m not set on the belief that they accept students just on stats. Many of his friends and others from his highschool that were deferred and later waitlisted had much higher scores, it’s the luck of the draw I think. Hoping that is the similar case now, for my daughters sake!

Agree. My son was also accepted EA last year for Business Analytics with a 3.8 weighted GPA and ACT of 28. He did have strong EC’s and his high school is competitive…
Just another data point.
Honestly, the consensus seems to be that they are struggling to manage their own admissions software system. It’s really unlikely that they are subtly coordinating marketing messages to hint at decisions.
This should have been our safety school for sure

My friend’s daughter (NJ) had a 1220 SAT and 3.8 GPA, she’s now a freshman at UTK. I have a good feeling for you! Tip for those applying next year, maybe go undecided. That’s what this student did.

I just called and talked to an adult, not a student. She said the goal is end of week but they are backed up and it may get delayed. She said students will get an email with a new date if it is delayed……

I believe that it’s true, because two years ago everyone that applied to UTK at my school was accepted, and a lot of people applied. (In-State)
