This is great life advice! You are gonna thrive where you go. ![]()

AO told us last year they did not start on the waitlist until May.
My son did Clemson bridge program and the housing is where they put the freshmen football players - so it is not a dump! In addition, he was a Clemson student in every way. It was a great transition.
My daughter was waitlisted to her dream school a few years back. She waited and got off the list. Going to her dream school and THRIVING was the best thing that ever happened to her. Your parents have great advice, yes, but My advice I’d add to it is " don’t let go of your dreams so quickly, when you still have a chance to pursue them". Her dream school hands down - the best thing that has happened to her so far in her life.
For those waitlisted, if UTK is your #1 don’t give up, many accepted students will start turning down the offer this month and especially in April. UTK has additional merit scholarships to announce yet and many will decide against UTK after that is announced. Also many schools don’t even announce admission until later this month or start of April.
It does now, beginning in 2023
section C1. Last yr OOS admit rate was 43%
Last yr overall acceptance rate was not 68%, it was 46%. 2022 was 68%.

It will all be fine, but those stats should get her in… I think the RD candidates (and those moved there from EA) were in a tough spot while UTK figures out their yield on the new IS auto admit policy along with their goal to increase the # of IS students attending UTK (but I do think that number is spread across all campuses).
Maybe the major? Legacy? First Gen? IDK… just trying to make sense it all…
I did
I also look at it like the food industry… if we must know the calories and carbs etc for our physical health, we should know these HARD statistics for our kids to help them make SMART decisions and protect their mental health. With that, I must say I have seen my child and friends handle this process pretty well. They know it’s a game, crazy experience that is unpredictable and why they over apply to too many schools. But I’d rather clarity up front. It’s the right thing. But I fear too much money has come in to stop it…
Oh I’m not giving up on my dream…my dream is to go to college, continue on to grad school and then a doctoral program. The place that allows me to do this, isn’t part of the dream. And, I didn’t let go of anything quickly. UTK didn’t want me, no love lost, I move on to a different place. I’m in control of my future, not one school out of thousands of options.
there are always rooms being posted on fb pages… you could stay close to them to find a room?
Not officially. We are still waiting … I do not see a scenario where we get anything more than $10k / year. Cox is a great school and it was a surprise to have it as an option.
where is your child going?
Definitely a big red flag on that. Btw, we are hopping in the car to head to JMU. Momma just wants to be within driving distance! ![]()
If anybody did accept the waitlist my friends counselor told him “my admissions counselor said they expect to start accepting some off of the waitlist each week as students decline their offers.”
That’s odd because our admissions counselor said May.
I can understand what you are saying. My son was deferred or even denied at several schools we felt were a safety. However, to imply that anyone who was on the list for the SRAR issue was automatically let in to UTK, is a little offensive and actually not true. My son was admitted, but the other 4 of his friends with the SRAR issue were deferred and then waitlisted or denied.
