University of Tennessee Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Waitlist here. I can see on the Common Data set for Fall 2022 that 140 students were admitted from the waitlist. Anyone know if there’s a way to get the data from Fall 2023? Trying to set expectations here, and figure out if it’s best to move on from UTK altogether.

Also, if anyone can help me understand how students get chosen from the waitlist? They say it’s not ranked. So if there are 5000 spots offered, and 3000 accept their waitlist spot, how do they start to offer spots to those 3000? In what order? I cannot wrap my head around this.

Does anyone have any information on the Pathway programs. My daughter is devastated as she was not admitted. Too emotional to even consider the pathway option (not abroad) but figured I would start here to get my info. This process is brutal, but I know she will end up where she belongs. Thank you and congrats to those of you who received your acceptances!! Go Vols.

OOS - Waitlisted. At our same HS, one kid with same stats as mine was rejected. Another kid with WAY worst stats and no EC accepted. I’d say it was pin the tail on the donkey for UTK.

agree CDS needs to start splitting acceptance numbers by in-state/OOS (for publics). When overall is 70+% but OOS is less than 30%, it would make a huge difference in the time we spent on this school. Also would make their admissions people’s lives easier, not having to review apps from kids who stand no shot of getting in, but who thought it was a target or safety

Someone posted yesterday about waitlist from last year on Reddit. They implied that waitlist moves quickly and if you don’t respond you get passed.

I don’t think anyone can tell what will happen this year but my guess is the waitlist will be used and probably pretty quickly.

Good luck if you select waitlist option.

I couldn’t agree more.

Our admissions officer said last year they didn’t go to the waitlist until May. I still cannot figure out the order they go in.

Unless they over, admitted due to the SSAR glitch. Based on the fact that they announced before decisions were just released that they were taking way less out of state applicants, tells me that the applicants that will be pulled from the waitlist if tapped, will be in-state

Ya, by the numbers they released, it looks like they pretty much waitlisted everyone except for a few instate.

Yep - your math is right - 33% overall acceptance rate this year. And last year combined acceptance rate was 68% a crazy shift to happen in one year!!! In-state this year was still 65%, but huge influx in OOS applications + auto-admit for TN students + enrolling fewer due to overcrowding from last 2 cycles = bad news for OOS kiddos this year. This is a lesson to be wary of stats - nothing has changed about the school’s academics, but now it looks more “elite” b/c of the acceptance rates - academically, nothing has changed to actually make it more “elite”. It will be interesting to see what happens with waitlists going forward. We know kids are applying to a LOT more schools and they can only go to 1, will be curious if waitlists move more this year (here and everywhere). Anyway, moving on. It’s been “fun” LOL

The semester abroad does sound cool, I am only wary of no housing guarantee when they get back. I feel like finding housing mid-year with possibly no roommates lined up will be hard. If they guaranteed housing, my daughter would be way more interested.

I don’t trust UTK to have housing available for Spring. Also, what will the student do for housing come Sophomore year if all the leases off campus were signed by students in October while these kids were abroad?

Having said all that, I have no inside info. I don’t trust UTK for anything at this point. I feel that they have been deceptive in communicating who can get into the school (toured last year) in order to get more applications and toy with their ranking.

I’ve seen this data on some of the most recent CDS (23-24). I have S25 and S26. Won’t help those with C24, but it’s something for those with younger kids.

There no housing issue for the Bridge Program at Clemson. They have their own on-campus apartments.

Understood. But they do have a housing issue so if you did spring start, you’re not guaranteed housing.

From what I’m seeing, housing is not provided to students doing the pathway program at UTK. Clemson & USC provides on campus housing for their bridge students. UTK pathway you are responsible for finding your own off campus housing. I watched a presentation about it last night from last year.

Is anyone actually putting themselves on the waitlist, I did because I have backups I just want to see

Nope. My parents have always told my sister and I “Never let yourself be the backup or someone’s second choice. You’re worth more than that” I don’t know that they meant it in terms of college apps, but I’m not putting myself on a waitlist and hoping they pick me when others accepted me from the start and are giving huge money!
