FWIW there are tons of amazing sublets for Spring semester with so many students going abroad. And there are two new apartment buildings that have vacancy for all of next year because so many people scrambled in September (my Freshman daughter included). Hope that helps to ease your mind a bit.

What is the likelihood of getting off the waitlist?

I agree :100:

When it comes to waitlisted students, the likelihood of being admitted off the waitlist can vary significantly based on several factors. Unfortunately, there is no specific percentage or guarantee for waitlist admissions. You may want to apply as a transfer student, as this year has been the most competitive year.

Do we know this is true for sure for first year students? And if it is true, when do we think they will be announced?

“Additional merit scholarship” ???

Thanks for saying that. I do feel like I let her down by not having this all figured out.

Oops I thought someone replied to me

Not all merit scholarships have been announced yet.

Yes I am referring to first year scholarships called competitive scholarships like the chancellor’s scholarships. I read they will be announced sometime in March.

Waitlist, welp go Gamecocks!

Ahh ok thanks for sharing - this was not published when we applied back in October, so only data I saw was 68% from the year(s) prior. And I see on this one they have split out in-state vs. OOS! This is great
for future applicants. Unfortunately didn’t help us this year.

We’re in at JMU too and I feel the same. We’re gong to CHOICES in April. Hope your kiddo loves it!

We did not have the glitch but friends did and were deferred/waitlisted. However, it’s possible UTK had to accept more in EA than they intended to b/c of the glitch (ie. they thought they hit their quota, but missed a whole batch of highly qualified kids due to SRAR issue who they then had to admit), which made it even harder for deferred/RD kids. In the end it likely would have been the same decision for all these kids, just on a different timeline. Just speculation of course, but possibility. Congrats to your kiddo!
