Has your child visited both schools?
Same here, son received his envelope and box yesterday after being caught up in the SRAR issue and later admitted.
That makes me think they had decisions ready for those students, but their portal had a bug in it.
We just got the box on 12/24 but no envelope yet.
You need to cancel first. It is unethical to commit to more than one school. You donât want any potential negative ramifications.
My S24 did not receive the box - just the regular orange envelope like your DD.
If housing is competitive/limited and requires an enrollment deposit to access the housing app, it is ok to have multiple enrollments outstanding prior to May 1.
It is unethical for the schools to require an enrollment deposit first before allowing a student to apply for housing/make a housing deposit where housing is competitive/limited(there are no consequences for schools that donât follow NACACâs ethics âguidelinesâ). As others have said, you are likely to lose deposits if you withdraw your enrollment and/or housing app after paying the deposit(s).
*Make sure to formally withdraw housing tooâŠthere was one parent who posted recently who withdrew the enrollment deposit but not the housing app/deposit, and the school sent a housing bill for fall semester along with late notices (canât remember the school).
TBH I think UTK isnât serious about wanting deferred kids from up north. Itâs no secret that northern schools have post Jan 19 semester end dates. For our house, itâs just a move on for better offers.
If you have better offers on the table from what you might ultimately think you would receive at UTK - absolutely a reason to just move on.
The 1/19 date has nothing to do with an attempt to exclude some certain population. Some high schools do a trimester, some have dates before or after the date the university posts. AOâs can help address what needs to be done to fulfill the application request.
We are in NC and I believe our semester ends a little after Jan 19 so I think thatâs a day they need everything to be in so that they can review in time for February decisions. Plus Iâm not convinced the 7th semester can make a dramatic difference for kids whoâve generally been A-students all along. Good luck everyone!
Is there anybody else that hasnât heard a decision from the honors college?
We havenât. Are they notified either way? I donât even see anything in the portal regarding her application.
I donât know for sure if they are notified either way or not, but I have seen on here that some have received yes, no, and wait-listed. Someone told me that if the student is under consideration as a semifinalist for the Haslam Leadership Scholars program, they may be withholding a decision, but I have no idea if that is true. We are out of state, so even if the application was competitive for the Leadership Scholars program, I believe they favor in state student for that extremely competitive program.
Did you daughter also apply for the Haslam Leadership Scholars program?
Help? Likely not - provided itâs consistent with terms 1-6. Hurt - it can certainly do that. The kid thatâs an A- student for 6 terms and then starts running B/B+'s (or worse) in term 7 is going to be a concern for a school. Senior year is also when a kid might be taking a harder course load (APâs, Calc, etc).
If the AO is reviewing appâs for 2 comparable kids and all else equal one saw a drop off and the other didnât the spot is going to the kid who was able to keep their grades up.
Agreed. Been telling mine this all semester!
Havenât heard either way
I have no clue about random states end of semester dates. Iâm in SE Virginia and our semester doesnt end until the end of January. Im confident this has nothing to do with it. The FAQs clearly state you dont have to do anything if you were deferredâŠonly if you think you want to try to strengthen your application in some way. From years past, Ive read that many who were deferred get in during the regular cycle. I dont think they have some weird conspiracy theory going on about where you are from in the country. If your child really wants to go to UT, then just wait it out and see what happens. If not, move onto other schools.
She did. But with a 31 on the ACT, and as competitive as this year has proven to be, I wouldnât be surprised that she didnât make the honors program - only surprised that we havenât heard anything.
We got the acceptance letter by mail a full week ago, but still no box. Same with two other people we know nearby. Is it possible that they only send the box to Tennessee residents? Anyone out of state receive it?
