Just spoke to a friend who got admitted in December. His has a counselor name, not Smokey Dog. Hmmm…
Geez, well, this is no fun.
so seems like there is no pattern then–this is all random.
I also have Sullivan as counselor now. Originally deferred, and had admitted major filled in with first choice. 
At this point they may be doing this as a joke to see all these new comments. No clue though

Okay, this made me really nervous! I thought since he was a transfer coordinator it wouldn’t be too good of a sign, but honestly with everything that has happened so far, who knows.
Not sure the Smokey Dog means anything. I know two students already admitted and they have Smokey Dog too. OOS, if that matters.

True. Maybe there’s just counselor shifting and as someone mentioned, Smokey Dog is a place holder. Who knows!

Jerry is not the correct counselor for my state or our original counselor.

Me as well, I just assumed he would be for Texas, but the website said Eastern Tennessee.
Oh you are in TX, well that is weird then to have the same counselor. Wonder what this all means.
I’m reading this Smokey dog as “if you have questions reach out to admissions@utk.edu” not to your regional AO who is currently busy with the new RD pool.

Yeah, who knows, maybe he is assisting due to the huge amount of applicants they are processing? This whole thing is so odd.
I believe this makes the most sense, because if you were deferred they have already seen the application except for semester updates.
