University of Tennessee Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

We’re SoCal and Jerry is nor our counselor… briefly had the “Admitted major:” blurb… now back to awaiting decision … no Smokey Dog here… our same counselor has remained present… we’ve been in touch this morning and she stated that the a few have reported the “Admitted major” but this was “not indicative of any official decision that we have made”

I don’t think they would tell us either way. We will have to wait and see how it shakes out.

I agree… UTK has definitely “shaken” us up a bit on this cycle…

My daughter did not have Amanda. She had Sheryl.

Has anyone asked AO about Smokey Dog being there now?

Instate. Accepted December. We don’t have Smokey. Sorta disappointed. :joy::dog:

Also want to add my AO was not Amanda. It was DJ Jones but now showing Smokey Dog

id feel good about having smokey since most accepted folks also have smokey, but there was someone above who said they were accepted but had a person as counselor still listed.

another connection is: they said before get submitted materials in by 1/19 (they have since backed off on that) but wondering it is NOT a coincidence that on 1/19 it changed to smokey for many folks. That could mean a decision was made on their applications.

Hmmm I didn’t even think of that connection. Very plausible

I’m also wondering how they can get rid of a deadline for new materials? What if they review a deferred kids application on the 20th for example and decide to deny them but on the 21st they add something significant to their application. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Yes, I cannot understand getting rid of the deadline either. How are they supposed to know when someone’s application is complete? They should have had a checkbox that said “I’m done! Ready for review”. Makes no sense to me. Unless they already had their minds made up and put that out there to give hope?

I understand it. They consider it complete when: they have enough information to make a decision. For some kids, they wait until semester grades are complete, and for others they do not need to wait based on other materials submitted since deferral, yield rate from their major etc…

Well then why even bother telling kids they no longer have a deadline to submit materials if admissions is going to make a decision regardless of if you have something to add or not? If anything they should have pushed the deadline back. For example test retakes, a higher score can 100% boost chances of admission but with this new “no deadline” thing who’s to say they’ll even see the new score.

They did. They sent a text message to each kid saying not to stress–just send updated SRAR info when they have it. They also changed the text on their web page.

Hope those who saw “Admitted major” really do get admitted… same as with the Penn State #PSUbound teaser… something is wrong with these higher education institutions that can’t hold themselves to the same rigorous standards they are demanding of their “customers”. The majority of these portals and processes are ripe for an overhaul… kudos to UG-Athens… solid, no nonsense, released on the time and date promised. Rant complete.

Agreed.

Some kids will not have midyear grades by the 19th. I think they probably changed it for those kids to whom that applies. But I agree for some kids they may not need anything although then I don’t know why they weren’t accepted in the first place for action

Totally agree with you.

I’m not feeling very confident in the UT admissions process especially after the SRAR debacle. When are deferred students supposed to hear?
