University of Washington Seattle Waitlist 2024

Hey, weird/late comment, but does UW send a confirmation email when they receive your appeal? I sent my appeal in a while ago and I still haven’t heard back and I never got a confirmation that they received it.

@confirmedwalrus yes they usually send in an email!

I keep seeing articles online and in the newspaper that getting off the waitlist should be easier this year because of the lack of oos and international students because of the uncertainty that covid-19 brings, so hopefully we will be able to get in but it just depends how many people have enrolled so far.

@California1919 i believe they were out of state!

there are actually many applicants (more out of state than in state that i know of) that have committed to UW but are waiting for waitlists of a different school (and would go to the other school if they get admitted). i’ve seen UC’s already sending decisions to waitlisted applicants, so i’m sure at least a few ppl will get admitted from the UW waitlist

I think it’s hard because there are so many of us on the waitlist this year… maybe more than last year?

Some attrition is expected over the summer, but if the enrollment figures hold, the freshman class will be slightly larger than last year’s class — about 7,050 students, compared to last year’s 6,984. The deadline to accept an admission offer was Friday, also known as National College Decision Day, although many other schools have postponed the deadline to June 1.

Some national experts expect freshman admissions to drop by as much as 20% this fall because of the uncertainty created by the coronavirus outbreak.

In all, 4,459 Washington residents accepted an admission offer, about the same as last year. UW admissions director Paul Seegert expects the final number to be 4,475.

Of the 2,032 out-of-state students who accepted an offer, Seegert expects 1,600 to enroll by fall. Another 1,334 international students accepted an offer, and the UW expects a final enrollment of 1,000.

The University of Washington stayed with the May 1 decision day, and its student enrollment for fall 2020 is up slightly from last year, an unexpected and welcome result, said admissions director Paul Seegert. About 7,825 students confirmed enrollment for fall 2020, although when summer attrition is factored in, the final number will likely be closer to 7,050, he said. Last year, the UW enrolled 6,984 freshmen.

What were the stats like last year? how was the UW able to take 3040 students off the waitlist? did only 3900 accept initially and the officials had to use the waitlist to offset?

^alot of people chose other schools over UW, which was probably why UW had to rely on their waitlist to get enough students. i know plenty of people who applied to UW as a safety school, but received admission to their reach schools. it might have been the same situation this year, but COVID definitely has been affecting a few college decisions.

What does this look like for the in state waitlist then? It seems like no in state waitlist have been admitted yet while a bunch of oos waitlist had been admitted even before decision date. Are they going to admit more waitlists since their admission and enrollment rate has already pass 7000?

Does anyone know how many people are on the waitlist this year?

looking at last year stats, 7,000 students were fully enrolled. if 7,000 students are already enrolled this year, i would guess UW is not going to admit any waitlisted applicants. BUT, keep in mind that not everyone who enrolled to UW right now will be going there. most may, but imagine the other schools that are accepting waitlists (that may be students who enrolled to UW). also keep in mind that UW accepts a lot more applicants than the number of those who enroll.

so no one knows what will really happen, anything can happen at this point.

My appeal was denied within 24 hours of being received. Is that a bad sign?

Yeah never mind to my last comment, just read through some of the comments about enrollment. I hate to be pessimistic, but I doubt I’ll be getting in at this point. Messed up my chances already by waiting until April 1st to sign up for the waitlist and waiting until April 29th to send in my appeal. And I probably could’ve made the wave of OOS students getting accepted on March 26th if I had just signed up earlier. Oh well. Good luck to everybody.

College officials around the country are expecting a 20% decrease in enrollment for next fall, so you still have a chance!

Yeah that’s the weird thing me and my parents were talking about, like how is UW getting more enrollment compare to the last few years while other school is struggling to get enrollments? I don’t know it just seem really weird.

@em0910 - most of the 20% decrease is expected to come during the summer shrinkage and not now. The thought process is that the universities are expecting this decrease in actual enrollment in Fall and should be increase the number of students they enroll now.

My daughter has applied to UW (OOS from CA), on waitlist and still eagerly waiting to hear that she is accepted. She has about average grades and SAT score and has applied for Arch & Construction Management major.

Has there been anymore people that have come of the waitlist in last few day?

Nothing, yet. Hoping sometime soon!

Hey guys so I’m in-state and have an unweight 3.89 GPA and a 1250SAT, not great ik. but I still haven’t heard back from UW and am seeing pretty much all OOS ppl getting in… I know that today was the official start date of hearing back but it seems like many heard back over a month ago so I’m really stressed and honestly pretty scared. Do you guys think there can still be a good chance of me getting in?
