We only JUST passed May 15, and the waitlist will move around until August 1, most likely after UW announces if fall quarter will be online or not. I’m in state and none of the people in my waitlist in state group chat have heard back. Also, the waitlist isn’t ranked. You have a chance but it could be another month or two. Just be patient as it is hard, commit to another university, and hang tight.
Wow. That’s really weird. UW admissions seemed to be much more competetive this year than usual as well. Many students with very high stats (1550+/3.7+uw) were either Waitlisted or denied, and seemingly some strong in state applicants were waitlisted or denied as well. Did UW get many more applications this year or something to make it far more competitive? I was also WL’d OOS with a 3.86 uw/35 ACT.
How did they get more students than they did in years past if the school’s admissions were more competetive?
My guess is UW became very competetive, and will probably shoot on the rankings soon.
@harvardptonwlboi whats your desired major?
@harvardptonwlboi i’ve heard that major does not affect the admission decision, but i truly still think it does. those who had very well stats and extracurriculars (that i’ve seen from the UW class of 2024 post) that were denied, applied to computer science.
if major really does not affect the decision, then i would think the essay was not as good as they wanted it to be.
not sure though, i’m surprised because many people who have above average stats were not admitted
im also surprised at how uw did their decisions this year since i know some applicants who did not have above or even average stats and got a direct into cs it honestly feels like they’re not very consistent with their holistic review process. either uw mainly just chose who’s ps they liked the most and just selected from that pile
@west2east20 My desired major was neuroscience. I was just waitlisted. Really upsetting since I loved Seattle, and UW is among the best medical schools, and among the best schools to study premed. I would have certainly strongly considered coming.
@hsfailure nah, everyone who got direct into CS or engineering had pretty insane profiles from what ik lol.
@pqweij1032 I honestly think they’re just getting to be very selective. They were probably as selective as all the other strong publics this year (like UMich UVa UNC) Do you guys think they were trying to boost their rankings? At this rate, they’ll be like within the top 40 or 30 or something in the next couple of years. They really denied very very strong candidates this year. Candidates whom they certainly wouldn’t have denied in any other year.
AND STILL had a higher yield. I think the app pool was just larger and stronger this year.
I guess it’s deserved though, since from what I know most STEM programs here and business are among the top 20 in their field. Don’t know much abt humanities, but would assume they’re also strong.
I know CS direct admit is a very competitive program. I’m sure Foster is similar. It’s even more challenging for out of state. Good luck!
I just got a waitlist update through email and it said “While we are not able to offer you admission at this time, we plan to keep the waitlist open until August 1, in case space becomes available”. So for now I think I am going to commit to Seattle University and continue waiting for UW.
Got that email too. Not gonna wait for it anymore, bye uw XDDDD
Looks like UW is gonna be a longer wait than other schools, my guess is they don’t want to make any decisions yet because of the uncertainty that COVID-19 will bring throughout the summer. Good luck everyone
I received the same email…I was freaked out because I thought it meant that I didn’t get off the waitlist but I’m guessing that everyone got that email in state, no?
I didn’t receive the email and I’m on the waitlist in-state…
I don’t wanna crush anyone’s dreams, but the odds of getting accepted off the waitlist now are even lower. They already accepted instate and OOS students before May the 1 due to the epidemic. The only way to get accepted now is if someone who had already confirmed to UWS switches schools due to other opportunities. I still advise pursuing the waitlist till august the 1st but highly recommend moving forward and committing to your already accepted school. Many students on the waitlist have above average stats but were waitlisted or even declined for some reason UW wants to keep for themselves. Regardless of the stats, the waitlist algorithm completely undermines the overall academic achievements of the student and randomly places them for possible openings to their school. I know times are tough, but we should try to move forward and just hope we can overcome the obstacle, which is the University of Washington admission and their waitlist algorithm.
I’m out of state on the waitlist and I got the email,
I thought they only let OOS students off of the waitlist
I was told by an admission representative that some OOS and in-state students were accepted prior to May the 1st. Ironically, nobody has been accepted during the time they said they would be accepting students. If you look back at this thread, many OOS students were accepted on the 26th of March. I believe some in-state students were also accepted at this time and didn’t inform us on the thread. This doesn’t include appeals by the way.
If you received the email sent out today, you are part of the “Second Wave of Students.” These are students who UWS didn’t priorities to be accepted off of the waitlist. The UWS waitlist algorithm undermines the academic success of the student which is the result of many above-average students confused as to why they weren’t accepted and placed on the waitlist. I wish you all the best as you continue your education.
@hopelessss what if you are still on the waitlist but you did not receive the email???
