No problem at all. Just filling in where I can. Wish I had more concrete answers to these issues, but I’ll certainly pass along anything I hear.
Will bookmarking a sub-forum ever be possible? That’s the #1 thing I miss since the redo.
@OHMomof2 - I know the importance of this feature has been communicated, and that it is scheduled for a future release. That pesky “when” question is still fleeting, though. Short answer to your question, therefore, is “yes, it should definitely be possible”, but with the usual qualifier of “at some point”. We’ve had other members give us the same feedback. As you are aware, at this point there is not even a marker to alert you when new posts have been made in a sub-forum (which is another item that is slated for a future time).
Thanks for the prompt reply. I really miss that feature, and I miss participating in a lot of college-specific forums…it’s just too much trouble to get to them now.
I definitely understand how that would make it very difficult to quickly and easily find the newest content.
I appreciate actually having someone who is responsive to us. I understand the issues aren’t your fault, but I think it was much worse for everyone when we were either A- being completely ignored or B- being treated like toddlers with some head pats “Yes, yes, that’s on the list and everything will be fine.”
Thank you for keeping up with this, Lenitus.
And thank you all for sticking by, even when the patience has (and still is) worn beyond thin.
I guess it’s obvious who the hard cores are.
Uhhh, @Lenitus . . . what happened to all those other threads that were pinned at the top of the financial aid forum? Have they just been allowed to disappear into oblivion? It seems as though it might be helpful to collect the links to those “lost threads” into a list in a single, additional stickied post.
Yes, I agree that the “automatic, full ride scholarships” deserve their own place among the stickied threads, but there are other, almost as useful threads for “competitive full ride scholarships” and for "less than full ride scholarships” that really need to be gathered in one place where they can easily be found. As someone who’s spent many hours advising newcomers to that forum, I don’t want to have to hunt for those threads each time I want to provide someone a link. And the newcomers, on their own, usually don’t even know what they should be searching for!
So, if those threads you’ve unpinned could be gathered in a single stickied post, that would be a huge help!
I do agree, though, that having all those individual stickied threads created an awful clutter, and it is pleasant having them out of the way!
What makes the money on this site? I’m guessing, based on the rate of improvements that happen, that it is not the forums. The new owners are not investing in the forums.
Or maybe the programmers all left and they are getting the interns to do everything.
Whoops- I didn’t mean for them to disappear completely. Just maybe in a collapsible list that is automatically up for everyone until they collapse them. It’s just a pain for us frequent visitors.
Maybe this has been addressed already, but the Featured Threads are often very old with no recent activity. For instance, on the Athletic Recruits Forum, the most recent activity is from March and October 2013. There are much more current topics being discussed so I’m curious about how Featured Threads are determined.
Remember Me isn’t working for me–I have to log in every day, on both my desktop and my laptop. This started a week or two ago.
@dodgersmom - I’d be happy to re-gather them into a single thread. May need help in remembering which ones they are, though #-o
@takeitallin - Featured threads are a completely manual process, and given that we have about 700 forums on the site keeping them all up-to-date is very difficult. I’m sure that in many of the school-specific forums there are some really ancient ones. Feel free to PM me if you come across newer discussions that you think we should consider featuring…and that can be for any forum. Thanks!
@stevensmama - Boo! I don’t typically need to log back in on the home computer, yet when I come to the office I must always log in. Same browser in both cases (Firefox). These inconsistent issues are harder to diagnose since they appear to be so random.
@Lenitus - I’ll take a look at what I have bookmarked and send you a PM. In the meantime, perhaps you could post a query in the financial aid forum itself, asking which of the previously pinned threads they’d like to see gathered in a single sticky. I’m sure the current regulars there would recall what was posted.
Honestly…it would help unclutter MY inbox if I could delete PMs that are no longer needed. I mean really…I do not need YEARS of PMs. After I read them, I usually don’t need them AT ALL.
I would love to see a delete button for PMs (a real delete…because clearly what I had deleted prior to January 2014 was NOT really deleted as not it’s all back).
ETA…I can’t imagine why this PM delete button is an issue from the CC point of view. Why would Hobsons care at all what I choose to delete? This feature should have been ported over from the old format. I think this is an example of lazy vendor coding.
@dodgersmom - I’ll await your bookmark and will also post a question there. Thanks!
@thumper1 - Heard you loud and clear on the “Delete PMs” thread you started before about this. And please don’t shout (by using capital letters).
Lenitus, re: fire sign threads not moving to the top with new posts: you advised me to clear cache via Ctl F5. Makes no difference. The “5 little known tips” threads still sits ow on my Bookmarks list. It also shows last post August 14, rather than today. (It has been having this time stamp issue on my Bookmarks for a while.)
I just bookmarked a featured thread and it went straight to the top of my bookmarks. I suppose yours could still be some sort of caching issue even if Ctrl-F5 didn’t make a difference (and I realize I’m using “caching issue” quiet liberally here). Did I ask you if you had tried a different browser?
Just wish this issue would be more consistent and easier to reproduce so we could properly narrow down potential causes. The last post timestamping issue seems to be recurring as well. For others viewing this, are you experiencing something similar to what lookingforward is describing? Are your bookmarks not being properly sorted by last post, and are you also seeing incorrect dates for the last post as well?
Baby blue eyes are lovely, but many morph into a darker color. Now that the baby days are over, could we expect a color scheme that is more classic than the “fresh” look was pretty bad in the past version But we had a choice. I do not think that choosing a different skin, even with this plain vanilla software.
