UNOFFICIAL THREAD TO MAKE COMMENTS ABOUT NOT-SO-NEW CC SITE

You’re showing your age on the forum, xiggi :wink: A good chunk of our current visitors have joined after the transition and don’t even know what “fresh” and “classic” mean. Anyway, I ‘admit’ to being one who stuck with the classic theme (i.e. grey and blue theme for those who aren’t familiar) even after the “fresh” light blue and white theme was offered as a choice.

Just tried IE and same bookmarking issue.<br>
I’m on Chrome, same issue laptop or phone. Yesterday, I thought my other fire thread had the same issue- but it is fine today.

The plot thickens on this one. So, you have another featured thread in your bookmarks, but that one is acting fine? #-o

Seems to be. I just posted on the problem thread and asked if anyone else has this issue.

Of course, Lenitus, and I was one who did not like the 2004 version. Weeks later I would not have wanted to go back. However, in this case, you must admit that a little tweak of the lighter colors might be a positive move. I am not understanding why CC clings to the choice of the light blue. Does anyone like it?

Lenitus, now the Bookmark placement issue seems fixed. You worked some magic?

Actually, one of our moderators pointed out something that had completely slipped my mind. The fix was simple and didn’t represent anything that was technically broken…but rather a system limitation. So, thanks to @Trinity for the fix :slight_smile:

@xiggi…I actually don’t mind the white expanse so much from a fashion standpoint (perhaps because I’m also accustomed to the same on Facebook), though I’m not 20 any longer and eye strain is probably the greater concern moving forward. However, not sure you were asking me directly.

Thanks for the help- and for being here to listen.

I guess I’ve gotten used to the white (don’t care much what accent color is used). But the teeny tiny font is really hard on my 59-year-old eyes.

Being unable to report spammers because they’ve figured out how to game the system and make the titles too long to flag. e.g. kbemerson

<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/womens-colleges/1678460-need-back-to-school-stuff-at-a-decent-price-or-trying-to-sell-your-old-school-stuff.html#latest”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/womens-colleges/1678460-need-back-to-school-stuff-at-a-decent-price-or-trying-to-sell-your-old-school-stuff.html#latest&lt;/a&gt;

That’s another issue that is somewhere in the queue for a fix. I went ahead and banned the user in question, so thanks for the hreads up on that one. Not sure if they gamed the system, as that title seemed pretty reasonable, instead of an obvious stuffed, spammy title. However, let’s not give them any ideas until this gets remedied.

Sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask but can someone point me the FAQ for this board? I’m sure there is a “how to” section some place, likely staring me in the face, but I can’t seem to find it!
I have several questions, Some I’m just curious about like why do so some posts change the user’s post count and others don’t? Why are some sections of the site not searchable. The parents of the class of xxx is grayed out in the search field. I would like to be able to search my old posts, sometimes I can’t remember what I posted where! Is there a better way to look up posts by user?
Thanks!

Hi there…I know we had a tutorial/FAQ thread for more common tasks shortly after the site was migrated back in January. I don’t know the whereabouts of this thread now, however :frowning:

I can address your questions here, though. We used to not count posts made in any of the Cafes or in High School Life, though I believe every post counts now. It’s just that the counter itself doesn’t always increment immediately. This goes back to the overly aggressive site caching employed by the site vendor that I’ve talked about before. It’s like saving a copy of a page and then just using that copy the next time instead of pulling the information from the server. It saves resources, but can lead to unexpected behaviors.

As for why certain forums are greyed out in the forum search function, these are forums that are acting simply as containers for sub-forums (meaning they typically hold sub-forums and are closed to new threads). We realize in the case of the Class of 20XX there are threads, but since it is closed to new threads by the community it is categorized as a container forum. Not sure if that made sense.

You asked a question about searching posts by user. You could do an Advanced Forum Search by clicking the small white arrow to the right of the “Search Forum” text box, then selecting “Advanced Forum Search”. Next, start typing the user name into the Author field and make sure to click the proper user from the resulting list. Click the Search button after that. This will give you results for that particular author only. Another way to view your own posts and threads is to click your profile name at the top right and then click on either “Threads” or “Replies” to view your content.

Does this answer your questions sufficiently?

Thanks!

sure looks like tonight;s posts are marked “Today at X pm.” :slight_smile:

Glad to see the time machine is gone :slight_smile: Thanks for your patience awaiting this fix. I guess it was much more complex than originally thought.

This thread:
<a href=“Despite Promises, Little Progress in Drawing Poor to Elite Colleges - Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums”>Despite Promises, Little Progress in Drawing Poor to Elite Colleges - Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums;
just got the flame, but now the posts aren’t showing up.

What does “got the flame” mean, oldmom? Sorry, I should probably know that!

Featured thread; it has a flame to the left of the title.

It’s wack. Repeat posts, out of order, misquotes…
