UNOFFICIAL THREAD TO MAKE COMMENTS ABOUT NOT-SO-NEW CC SITE

I knew it didn’t for replies (which was a change from the old system). Never occurred to me I wouldn’t be subscribed to a thread I created myself.

We could probably consider doing something like this as long as members had a way to hide their status if they desired. I’ll make a note of it for our product team. Thanks!

Thanks…we are well aware of this ongoing issue, though it’s been difficult to assess any sort of trends. When I log in from the house on Firefox I typically never get logged off unless I re-start the computer. Rest assured the issue is on the radar for closer inspection (once some of the other remaining higher-priority issues are dealt with).

There are a few possible reasons for this. If you create a lot of threads your bookmarks section could get quite congested if they were all bookmarked by default (meaning you’d always have to unbookmark those threads you weren’t as concerned about any longer). Another is that you can already receive other types of notification for activity on threads you create (such as pop-ups or e-mails).

Thanks. i thought we did have a ‘who’s online’ feature after the new release. For now, I’ll wait.<br>
@Sudsie’s question- you can also go to your profile and on the left there are links to your threads and replies.

@lookingforward, thanks, I know that. Just was surprised not to be subscribed when I originated it–I would think most people who originate a thread would want to default to being subscribed and can unsubscribe when they lose interest.

When you start a thread, after you click “submit discussion,” it appears automatically as it looks to someone clicking on it new. So it’s pretty easy to click on the star (as long as you know you have to!).

Every other forum I’ve ever been on either automatically subscribes you to a thread you start, or makes that an option somewhere that you can permanently set.

To have to remember to click something to subscribe to your own thread is ridiculous, bordering on stupid. It’s just another of many annoyances since the forum downgrade.

There is a “Who’s Online” link in your Preferences which allows you to hide your status from the community…though we don’t currently display anyone’s online/offline status anyway. I went ahead and made note of it as a future point of discussion. Thanks!

Thanks Lenitus.

Notrichenough, We differ, but it’s extremely easy to get to any thread you started if you can’t bring yourself to click Bookmark. Just click Threads over on the left. The most recent ones are right there at the top of the list.

But bookmarking any thread is ridiculously easy now. That’s actually one of the things I like better than the old site which involved dropdown menus.

Sure, the way adding a bookmark works is ok, although not real intuitive. I just think it is goofy to have to manually bookmark threads I start.

I have much bigger complaints about how some other things on this forum work that will never get fixed. Bookmarking is small, I have trained myself to automatically bookmark stuff. I can’t do anything about things like putting user names in the email notification subjects.

At least your email notification works. Mine doesn’t ( though maybe that’s not a bad thing  ). And yea my settings are correct. It worked briefly. And then, it didn’t.

Been getting logged out today on both phone and computer.

And every time I reboot my computer I have to log back in. Can you fix this?

Speaking of bookmarking…bookmarking SUBFORUMS? Pleeeeaaaaaase???

Hoping one of the tech guys can post more regarding the logout issues.

You probably also meant to include bookmarking forums in general, since it’s not only subforums that can’t be bookmarked. This feature sounds similar to another requested update that involves marking forums and subforums that have new activity since your last visit (i.e. the old site had a circle that was colored yellow if new activity had occurred). I don’t see these in the next batch of updates to be released, but the bookmarking update is included in the one after that. By Christmas perhaps? Would be a nice, long-awaited present.

Well the new teal bar at the tip of the page is interesting, but the response time when clicking on the icons on the top right (eg notifications , inbox, etc) seems slower.

Have also had the “have to re-log in” issue a lot lately.

Still might be some lingering issues tied to this update, but please let us know if the response time persists.

Also, when you say you’ve seen the log-in issue a lot “lately”, I assume you mean before the new teal navigation bar appeared. I realize there have been on-and-off issues for a few months, but have you seen it increase since the new nav bar? Not sure how they’d be connected, but just checking. Thanks!

Only noticed the nav bar this morning. Don’t think it happened this morning (ack I am not sure) but did happen on my ipad yesterday for sure, and in ipad/phone/computer prior days.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the input.

By the way, some of you may be seeing some stylistic oddities this morning. My username is shifted to the left, along with those small blue icons. Also, the footer is left-aligned. These are directly related to the release of the new nav bar, and we are currently working with the site vendor to get things resolved. Not sure if all of you are seeing the odd styling or just some of us.

Got this when I tried to sign on just now:

Hmmm…I logged out and back in again and don’t get this error. I just heard we’re having a potential issue with the sign-up buttons, so it may be somehow related. If you sign out and back in again do you see it again?
