Hi, do you or anyone else reading this know someone who has done the McCombs Bridge program? Not too much online about it in terms of people’s experiences with applying, getting accepted, competitiveness with acceptance, etc… Anybody have experience or know someone who has with the Bridge program? And with being a Liberal Arts student who got in? Thanks.
A lot of Texas kids do tend to choose UTD with scholarships or A&M. From what I am seeing A&M is also getting very competitive
Hopefully, they all had plenty of backup options since UT is a reach school even for high achievers just based on numbers. My kid applied to plenty of safeties and some that are top 20s, hoping for UT, but knowing he would have just gone to a nearby state school for electrical engineering if UT hadn’t worked out.
Congrats to everyone who got in from OOS.
We are checking out the campus and Austin in March for 3 days and S24 didn’t even get in…
UTD may be better choice. TAMU has ETAM year, I think last year at TAMU about 60% ETAM applied BMEN got BMEN first choice.
The ETAM round of competition is tough as one is competing against the best of high school grads.
TAMU ranks in 40s (usually top 50 considered elite), a distance better than UTD, especially for engineering which is at the same level as UT Austin.
The better here is “choice”, not better school or rank. Going TAMU for BMEN is tougher and may not get the major.
Sometimes we need to balance the risk and return to determine “better choice”.
Another good thing about TAMU is if you are interested in CS, but without a stellar stats. If you are admitted as general engineering at TAMU, you have a shot to CS major since they are in the same ETAM process. Last year it’s about 66% whose 1st choice CS got it. That’s pretty good. UT Austin CS? That’s a far reach if not impossible.
66% first choice ETAM are all 4.0. Those were top students. TAMU also have over 180 valedictorians attending their engineering.
Many accepted as freshmen, fell below 3.75, didn’t even bother to apply hot majors CS, AERO, MEEN, BMEN… in ETAM. So the disclosed “ETAM” rate is not accurate.
UT has other admission agenda, there are quite a few auto got admitted to better schools but got COLA from UT.
I generally agree with what you said, but correct you on the number. Last year a total of 598 first choice CS, accepted 400, in which 383 are auto placement (3.75+ gpa) and 17 holistic replacement (<3.75 gpa). I think all the 3.75 or above applicants got it, plus 17 below 3.75. Not all 4.0.
How many get into UT engineering but not A&M?
Very few. I did not hear any kids in history of our large public high school who got to UT Austin engineering and did not get to TAMU engineering. Usually, it is other way around. I do not have exact numbers for you though, just my experience with local high school.
Well, as exciting as 2/1 was and has been all week, I’m really missing our old group while we were sitting on the edge of our deskchairs awaiting decisions. Where did the admitteds go? Are there any other group message boards carrying forward?
I missed that too. Inevitably most people have moved on with their lives. I hope some will come back to discuss financial aid offers, admitted students events and housing. Considering that many were not admitted, this thread will unlikely feel the same again. I truly enjoyed these few months prior to 2/1 decisions release and I’m very thankful to you all for this.
I have an aspiring 2030 LHD, so I will be following for a while. We are in state, and of the four admits I know of personally, only one plans to attend (all four got their major). Maybe there will be a little movement in May. UT was not my DS28’s top choice or I would for sure tell him to send in an appeal. I hope all the 2024 Texas students find a great match. Our school exports may great students to many states, near and far. There is a lot of SEC love.
Sorry, what is LHD?
Im assuming Long Horn Daughter, or something Long Horn D. Other people have used LHD with the same connotation.
Yes, my LongHorn daughter hopeful is trying to stay in top 6% and hoping the auto admit% doesn’t go up much further. I am happy because it keeps her self motivated to do her best in school.
Mine got an interview this week.
does anyone have suggestions on where to dorm freshman year? I’m so overwhelmed by all the different dorms and off campus apartments.
