We weren’t too upset by the deferral as we expected a denial. So for us it still gives my DS hope. 7 admits, 2 deferrals and 1 still not out…so he has options.
People vent from their own shoes.
I don’t mind AI stepping in at all, matter of fact, AI is suited to do this much better and faster, you can expect AI taking over all college admissions in the near future.
If US news does a ranking on college admission, UT may still score top 10, only from the bottom.
It is nice they publicly told you what to expect with many rejects, not many deferrals. We have had 3 EA outcomes now and none of those told us what to expect at all.
I have seen rumor-posts of UT telling counselors they read them all and everything is proceeding as expected and paid consultants online with videos saying “oh they are so behind”. Until someone at UT puts it in video or writing it is all speculation.
For UT, they said we would have a decision by 2/15. To me that meant in/out. But to them I guess it meant in/wait. Not a fun discovery that we should have them define “decision”. But it is no different of an EA process than USC or Georgetown who accepted few and deferred everybody else (over 91%) to the RD pile.
It’s their 1st year with this process, I am sure it could be improved too. I am sure it is difficult in the first year of any new process, I am sure admitting to majors which UF does not do and having to lawfully balance auto-admit numbers makes it more complex.
I am also a college essay coach. “Defer” was always listed as one of the options for Feb 15 on their website, and I made sure every one of my clients knew it. Could their process be improved? Of course. But for the record, it was never just in/out for Feb 15, despite what many people thought.
Agree with you 100%.
UNC same thing…rejections galore of super high stats oos kids. So many reddit posts online of kids with half a dozen deferral from flagships and top private schools. The process is hard on everyone but I am not going into the UNC forums bashing the school or their admissions office because the rejection of my child stings. He isnt what they wanted. At least a deferral means someone is still under consideration and there is hope. If the process by UT is that distasteful people can always withdraw the application at any time along the way.
Oh i believe it! I recall reading it that way too and on 1/15 told my son before he looked “it is possible they make you wait”.
My only issue was students from regular decision hearing first. I think these kids rush to meet a deadline, they should be hearing ahead of RD.
did any of the school you mentioned also send out a notice at EA delivery date like what UT does on 1/15?
did any of the schools you mentioned recruit RD students in EA period?
Even if they do, in my view, they are just as " (you fill it in yourself)" .
UT 2025 EA is a cliche, I pretty much forgot what happened, UT is still as good as it can be.
This I agree with!
The texadmission guy’s book said apps go into 3 piles: auto, nonautoo, oos and they do everything by major. To me, just speculating, I wonder if they got thru the bucket of a few not-so-popular majors, nonauto or ooos app where there may not have been as many EA and they moved on to process the RDs in that bucket. The ones I saw on reddit seemed to be oos and only certain majors (could have been typical reddit rage-bait posts in there too). Or maybe they completely goofed and didnt “uncheck” that block of apps in the computer system when sending out the decisions that day. Anything is possible, hopefully they correct that in future cycles.
My DS corrected me that UF is 38th ranked in physics according to US news and ranking. It definitely is a great school, but UT physics is ranked higher and my son visited UT and met many physics researchers. He liked all aspects of the department and intensity of course work etc. Waiting for few more school results before he can decide. Still some ways to go. Best wishes for feb15th to all those waiting eagerly.
Kids know better than we do.
My old memory tells me that UIUC ranks better in physics than UT , GT and Michigan, not sure whether that still holds.
For a job in industry, I would advocate for Florida, Austin and Atlanta school locations, if kid wants to do academic research , ranking probably matters a bit more.
They really did not communicate this possibility. That’s the problem.
It was always on their website as an option
Clearly lays out that a deferral was an option on 1/15. Jeeeezzzz.
UF is good the only edge UT has is many more tech companies hire from UT than UF. So internships and jobs are easier from UT.
False
This (random data) only proves my point. UT is ranked #4 even in this data. And I don’t see UF in the list anywhere.
They are #37.
UF is not a target school in investment banking.
So?
