It was two years ago (Class of 23) and he heard that year I think it was in February on the same day everyone heard that year, who wasn’t an auto admit but had gone Early Action. They’ve moved it all up now, my middle son is now applying EA, due in earlier and they hear earlier, I think.
Would you mind sharing what your elder son major is? He got a very strong score? I heard if being holistic and don’t have SAT over 1500, it is no hope at all
This can’t be true. I’ve known several people who did not get in with 1500+ scores and also known several who got in with 1200-1300 scores. There is more that goes into admissions then a test.
Yes I dont think you can make blanket assumptions over SAT scores. A lot of times the path can be much less bumpy for everyone if the desired major is non-impacted (Cola, Communication, Social Work, Education) while a perfect SAT score is no guarantee even for auto-admit/valedictorian/NMSF if they want one of the “holy grails” of competitive majors (CS, ECE, Nursing etc)
I heard this rumor around at my son’s HS , yes, I agree that UT Austin is truly holistic. We just move on applying other colleges, and wait for EA decision by Jan 15 (a pretty long wait…)
In case y’all hadn’t seen today’s new rankings release:
Lots of upward movement. I am amazed that Chemical Engineering (my son’s major) jumped from 9th to 5th!
Mine received her UT ID and mystatus this evening!
When/how does she apply for housing? All of her required documents are showing as submitted/uploaded but not seeing any info for housing yet.
You have to login to the Housing Portal. University Housing Portal | UHD Housing Portal
If it gives you a blank IT page, it needs a few more days to “marinate”. Many say it needs 2-3 days after it is deemed “complete” to get access to the housing site.
Thank you! She got the IT page last night but this morning was able to do it even though didn’t receive any official emails about it yet.

So two years ago they did not require the submission of the SAT and we didn’t submit it because we were worried that it wasn’t high enough. His GPA was 4.4 and he was admitted into Moody. Its different now with UT requiring the SAT.
Sure it’s a dumb question…but what does official auto admit look like in the portal? Mine now has a message that says she qualifies for auto admission and her app is now in review for major. And a little further below mentioned her app being in review and a decision will be posted and emailed.
Since I can’t edit my post, updating to above.
We figured out that the message IS auto-admittance, woohoo!
Wow to the fast turnaround time. Submitted application on Sunday, My status portal access on Tuesday, official admittance on Wednesday. Of course now the long wait to see if she’s admitted to her major.
MyStatus today has removed “your application is in review” paragraph, but still shows You have met EA deadline. Is it a good or bad sign lol? My son is holistic.
Ours is like that too now. And the stuff about “if you want to add info do it by 10/23/24” is gone. I can only assume they are done reviewing and now it will sit in a pile til January. My son is autoadmit.
My sons application has changed as well, the review word is gone and the 10/23/24 date. It says it is still being considered for admission to your requested major.
Did any of your kids submit the Engineering honors application? I just checked and it’s saying it’s in review, it previously showed submitted.
@mommabear27 Daughter applied to Turing and CSB, both honors are in-review too since the day application is in-review
Yes he applied to Engineering Honors and it says In-review but I don’t remember if that changed. I’m assuming yours was an auto-admit because mine does not have the language about being reviewed for your major.
Yes my son is auto, previously the honors did say submitted, now changed to in-review.
Just curious, what does your child’s major say when you go to the original RIS page? I’ve been lurking around on previous threads. lol
