UT Austin Class of 2029 Official Thread

You apply for housing in the housing portal (it’s a separate portal from the mystatus stuff). Walk thru some of the menus like UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE HALLS to find where you pay the $50 housing deposit. Before they will send a housing contract you do have to accept to attend and pay the $200 enrollment fee. See my post above wrt contracts+$300 and dorm selection process that comes in June.

This is the first BME acceptance I’ve seen. Congrats to your son! My son’s portal still shows he is deferred. He is also auto, he submitted his application in the first day they opened. :joy:

Any other RTF majors hear yesterday? My son’s portal still just shows Application Received. He is in state, non-auto admit, and Regular Decision.

I do not want to open my oos child’s email, but it said “please log into my status” in the subject line. Curious if the subject line is different for those who got in, versus those who did not. A few more hours to wait since my child is sleeping!

No it is a standard email to everyone. It does look ominous for sure, but I had same email (just like anyone else), but glad I got into CS.

Accepted. “Please log into my status we’d like to share some important information with you.” in subject line.

I saw quite a few on reddit for BME acceptances.

Thank you!. I already accepted the admission offer and my dad paid the $200 deposit. I had already applied and
paid the October housing application fee back in October 2024.

My son was notified of acceptance to Geoscience yesterday. This was his second choice, first was mechanical engineering which we knew was a long shot (6.8% rank, 700/700 SAT, 3.96 GPA, 6.89 weighted at 8). He’s also been admitted to the College of Engineering at A&M so he will be weighing options now.

As I read the application material it looked like only auto-admits would default to the second choice or drop down the that third bucket. Did I read that wrong? We fully expected engineering, maybe UTSA or a rejection. And, we know auto-admits who we offered things like economics or other third choice stuff.

We’re not looking a potential gift horse, but this was unexpected. Are there any others who were outside the top 6% and offered their second choice major?

AS a follow-up to my own post, but to keep threads separate…

Does anyone have experience with transitioning in the Geosystems Engineering major? That looks like an option once you are in Jackson but we really didn’t know anything about it and just started looking at it.

I have never heard of a non auto getting second choice. But lots of different things this year!

In-state auto admit with top top stats. She didn’t get any of her majors yesterday. UT is pretty much out for us. Oh well.

Rejected OOS (but soon to be IN-STATE, unfortunately). My daughter is losing confidence by the day. Poor kid has been thru the wringer both physically & mentally over the past 4 years. Her GPA isn’t great (7 Bs — mostly B+) with 11 AP/IB classes, 5 Honors classes), 4.03 W GPA, working actor since age 9, study abroad in France, shelter volunteer/foster since 7th grade, had major surgery with 10 months of physical therapy, lost her grandma during COVID (no funeral, no closure), 1.5 years of masking & social distancing in a new school/town (basically isolated from making any friends for a long time, which is the cruelest thing imaginable) then ANOTHER new school, and clearly a 1500 SAT does NOT serve to compensate for a lower GPA. She’s smart as hell but she’s had a LOT of obstacles. She’s also moved 9 times in her life (military kid. I honestly don’t think anybody in admissions weighs the extenuating circumstances sections of the Common App enough, or takes it seriously). I don’t know anybody who can go thru what she did and still come out with the grades/SAT that she got. I sure as hell couldn’t. I often imagine what her results would’ve been like had she been in the same school system all her life.

Sorry, not sour-graping anyone else’s success or admits. I’m genuinely happy for your children as I’m sure it was well deserved. I just don’t understand when you look at “ranges” for GPA and SAT and your kid meets or exceeds them, you think you have a pretty good chance. No :frowning: We are very grateful she got into all her safeties/targets with Honors & fantastic scholarships. Still waiting to hear back from most of her reaches/hard targets. Please send positive thoughts her way!

Do they review apps by region? My son is not hearing of anyone getting in yet from his HS. He is auto, and his still shows he is in review. This waiting is awful!

What’re the in-state vs. OOS vs. international acceptance rates for a Biology major student? Any statistics available for this?

Is McCombs the hardest place to get into for OOS?

Any other UTNY acceptances?

Thank you! I’ve heard of a few others. I’ve heard so many stories of incredible kids deferred or CAP’d though. Best of luck to your son!
