While We Were Sleeping - Upgrade

I’ll change my pic to a real pic later. I have a cute one with my dog & I.

I don’t have any real mental images of posters other than thumper- I picture her as a rabbit.

@hayden We still have Roger_Dooley and Lenitus around, I am just newer to the scene. Nice to meet you :D

Mom2college, did you click “edit” when you are in your profile and have your “picture” and “thumbnail” song click “edit” by thumbnail then you actually touch the left picture to cut and edit how you want your avatar to be. Difficult to explain but I think that’s what you want to do

Ok. I am trying not to be a curmudgeon about anything new but so far I’m not liking this. I used to get emails once a day with which threads had updated to ones I posted on. Now I get spammed whenever anyone posts anything. How do I fix it?

Bring back the yellow dots to indicate threads with new posts. Bring back the red stars so I can easily see threads where I have psted. Heck, just bring back the old site! I hate this!!

Singersmom, you can turn off the email notifications by going to your profile and clicking on the edit button. The issue with seeing just the new posts is another issue that I can’t answer.

I just added a FAQ that I am sure will continue to grow. <a href=“CollegeConfidential Update FAQ - College Confidential Community - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/community-forum-issues/1609348-collegeconfidential-update-faq.html</a></p>

Need delete of PMs Also need to see sent and received PMs. Most of the emoticons are too similar- a bright yellow frown is nearly the same as a smile… Do NOT want post going to facebook!

Avatars so distracting. Plus, some are posting real info that could ID them. Also with the ability to change avatars at will they are useless as an easy way to know who is posting by picture. Need much larger name of poster compared to silly pics.

Gotta quit now- getting a headache from the bright white and terrible format.

So two more things going on:

 • My back button is not working in CC. I am in IE 11 if it matters to those looking into these things eventually.
 • When I go to the alphabetic list of colleges and click on a letter (I like to click on “D” to see if anyone is posting on the Dickinson forum), there is no longer a date saying when the last post was on that forum. I used to be able to tell quickly if anyone had posted lately, but now I have to go into it. Maybe this is related to the lack of indication on the page that lists top universities and LACs that there have been new posts in them… but in any case, it is now extra clicks to figure out if there is activity for a given college.

And for what it is worth, why are we all dogs (well, most of us)? I think dog people (and I do own one) tend to be joiners and like company.

I tried to post a picture of my face and gave up because it was too small to make out my features… not sure why since some others look fine to me. I was actually thinking “damn, I wish I had a dog picture to use!”

@dbraud - the FAQ is very helpful - I know you have it posted on the “forum issues” page, but would love for it to also be posted on the parents forum as a hot topic or whatever -I’m thinking most parents DO frequent the parents forum or cafe.

The white screen is killing my eyes. I liked the old notifications to email where I could actually read what a poster said, without opening up CC.

I am also slightly saddened I lost 2 billion posts overnight. While I didn’t actually write those 2 billion, I grew attached to them over the last many years. Where did thy go? I will never know.

You can’t report posts. We don’t “have permission”.

Yeah, my eyes are starting to water. I think I’ll take another break.

The Facebook thing has got to go. Terrible, terrible idea.

Yikes - just unchecked e-mail notifications for new posts in threads I’m following. Used to like the daily digest but these individual notifications are too much.

I run a website myself and I hope the people that run this site have thick skin. I feel guilty complaining so much because I know it is difficult when you’re trying to do a good thing, that WILL be a good thing in the long run, when nobody likes change and transitions always take time as you fix bugs and fine tune the new features. So, I get it. It’s just, as a user, I also really hate it and I didn’t expect to. I will be around less until it is better simply because this is so clunky it takes the fun out of trying to read. And I don’t want to be a guinea pig for quite so many problems. I’m not mad at CC for making changes, but this is a much rockier transition than I was prepared for. The FAQ is helpful, for some things, but should really not be necessary… those things are all so basic that how to do them should be readily apparent or your layout just isn’t any good.

I am hoping maybe you were just trying to minimize downtime and you still have a LOT of changes to make. I would never have re-opened my site with it in this condition, but that’s just me! Maybe this was the right thing to do for your circumstances but it’s making me grouchy. :(

Yea so my #1 complaint is that the location thing is gone from under my name

Wow, I agree with the others … this white screen is blinding me.

I’ve launched quite a few websites as project manager or Change Management and I thought this one felt pretty smooth…of course I’m on the outside looking in and didn’t have my face in two computer screens last night. I found everything pretty quickly and grasped the basic organization. The layout is very, very common with the vignette and line separation, the Neue Helvetica against the white (at least that is our my browsers are interpreting the font). The new forum software seems fine, although I do have a certain fondness for the old V-Bulletin. I think if they tighten up the spacing and shrink the avatars slightly it will improve useability on computers, but other than that it seems to be running pretty well. Everything else is user wishlist stuff and every web launch comes with those. Google Change Management Curve

I will never check with my phone if I am having difficulty with the brightness on ipad.
