While We Were Sleeping - Upgrade

@doughill, I feel your pain. I don’t think the new format is too bad. I’m not a whiner, and I look forward to the things that need fixing being fixed. I fully expect you and all the other CC folks will handle it.

Enjoy your evening – you deserve it.

Ha! @oldfort this old dog has to get a little sleep and some grub. In fact, I’ve been on here since breakfast and didn’t realize what time it was! Time flies when you’re engaged and having fun. I’ll be around along with the rest of our team doing our best to respond while we continue to work on all things awesome at CC.

Thanks @veryhappy, you do the same! I don’t see it as whining at all. Just passion expressed in various ways. All feedback is good feeback is how we view it. We appreciate you all and are doing our best to make all things awesome.

I thought when we post on a thread, it would be automatically be in My Bookmarks. It is not the case. I have to actually Bookmark it. I think it is a bug.

I’m hopeless. I can’t find a way to use this site after the ‘upgrade’. Tried to catch up in the Downton Abbey thread that I’ve been following along. But can’t get to recent posts. Really have no desire or time to scroll through post beginning in November 2011. :frowning:

Shoot , I can’t even get to the same page as this post will appear.

It is like a walk down memory lane to see all the old posts and threads as I click around. Gosh the time has flown by so very fast the last nine years. Back to the office tomorrow after an extended snow weekend so no more playing for me…

Perhaps I’ve missed this, but is there a way I can “clear” the visitor message from my profile? It’s innocuous, but kind of silly. We should be able to clear our own profiles.

And is there going to be functionality that enables us to view past posts and/or PM the person just by clicking on their name? That was one of the GREAT features of the old forum. Now, it’s multiple clicks to get there, which is frustrating.

Finally, when I look at my own replies (I’[m not really sure why I should care whether my own responses were threads I started or threads I was participating in, but whatever), is there a way I can see whether there have been new responses added?

Thanks. This is not fun, I am sure!

@doughill - I feel bad now …no welcome…well at least I can thank you at this point for answering my questions so quickly. I appreciate it! ^:)^

Being able to change the font would be awesome.
At least to a serif?
Also, don’t like animations, it seems to be slower too.
I do like seeing everyones dogs, but the bright red notification when we edit is too much.

The upgrade is not loading on my laptop, just iPad. Still get the “we’re making a better experience for you” page. I used Firefox as my browser. Oh well, just frees up time for more productive things.

dh- you’ve been very responsive. Thank you!

Not sure if this will help anyone else but I logged in to the new site on my computer, clicked and read most recent posts on all the threads I like, then logged on with my iPod. Now my bookmarked threads do go to the most recent posts on those threads. That’s all I really needed. The font and background don’t bother me - but I wear reading glasses for my iPod no matter what site I’m on.

@doughill – I understand that posts “on the wall” were visible in the old system, but the reality is that most people did not know how to do that, and many people clearly considered them to be the equivalent of private messages. That nuance certainly escaped me.

Given that a number of those wall postings contain information that the parties involved would be a lot more comfortable not sharing, would CC consider deleting “pre-upgrade” wall messages entirely?

doughill, I haven’t seen you or any mod address the issue of the teeny tiny font size. Is this being looked at? My eyes are 58 years old, and they’re having a very hard time with this.

PS – I hope the solution isn’t that I must change something in my browser. I don’t want the entire internet enlarged!

Yes that would make the avatars even bigger!
Not that I am complaining about yours DH.
;)

LasMa - try this to make your font temporarily larger

Kajon, I don’t want to increase the size of the entire internet. Just this website. Surely this isn’t difficult for the CC programmers.

I view it on an ipad. I have to turn it landscape and double tap just to read it. Way too freaking small.

Too few posts on a page, too.

@kajon, in Chrome, when you increase the font size using Ctl+, it only applies to the page you are viewing. And if I’m not mistake it’ll open that page with those settings next time. Doesn’t solve the “too much white space” issue, but it does make the font bigger (and a little bolder too)…

@doughill, here is how I browse CC: through safari, via Ipad or Iphone, not through an app. I go directly to Parents and scroll down to see which threads look interesting, and what’s new on threads I have been following. Then I do the same in Parent Cafe.

***** I never log in unless I have something to say!*****

I wanted to reply to this thread. Assuming I wanted to be able to read the post before mine while responding (if I was responding to a prior post), here is how the new CC is annoying the bejesus out of me:

In the old CC, I could log in at the thread point where I wanted to comment.

In the new CC, the login takes me back to the home page and after logging in I had to navigate back to the parents forum, back to Parent Cafe, scroll down to the thread, hit the button to go to the last page on the thread and then comment. That is on my IPad. I believe that at this point, if I was using my Iphone, I would have had to scroll, one page at a time, to the end of the thread.

It makes me pause, to decide whether what I want to say is worth the effort of logging in and navigating back to the spot on the thread I want to comment.

Once I’m logged in, I like the ease of responding to threads, but this is a pain for anyone who doesn’t automatically log in every time they visit CC.

This isn’t facebook, where one has to log in read anything.
