Ditto. Just too much trouble now to locate where I left off, get caught up on what’s happened since I last checked, see who said what at a glance, and yes-- the white background is a nonstarter.

I also rarely log in unless I intend to post a reply. I dislike that when I do log in to post, I’m bumped to a main page and have to navigate back to where I was previously reading. Earlier, I tried several times to post in this thread but each time there was no reply box in which to post while on other threads I could see a reply box. Curious.

I also find the small text and massive amount of white space hard on my eyes. Currently, I have my zoom setting at 150% which helps with the text size but not the glare.

The date/time indicators on the threads seem off. Before I logged in, it appeared that the last post here was made 4 hours later than the actual time.

About the only improvement I can see is the saved draft feature. I hope the other issues will be resolved in the next week or so.

The reply box is totally white on my screen, with no borders, etc to define it.

I think the default time is GMT, which is weird since this is not really an international site.

I’m a slow adapter but I was hoping to come here and hear you all had figured out the how to get to “first unread” already!

Well, for me it works (on my computer; not on a phone or tablet) just by clicking on the name of the thread itself.

Do we still have the ability to turn private message feature on/off? I can’t find it.

Yes, this has been mentioned several times. When you open up the Parent Cafe forum and scroll down the threads, all you have to do is click on the title of a thread (as opposed to the page numbers) and it will take you to the first post which was posted since your last visit to that thread.

Perhaps the reason it doesn’t work for some people is because they’re not logging in. How does the software know where you last left off if it doesn’t know who you are?

Right, if you’re not logged in, then it wouldn’t work.

Me, too. I hate this. I hate the look (in the old site I kept the “CC Classic” look, but I can’t find an option to do that anymore). I hate the lack of red stars and the ability to go to first unread post. I hate not being able to see from the table of contents if there are unread posts in a subforum (e.g., a particular college). I hate that if you click on my name, you see a bunch of what were once supposedly private messages to and from me. I hate that posts in long threads are not numbered, so it’s harder to be precise about what you may be addressing. I hate that links no longer automatically open in a new tab, so if you click on a link while composing a reply you lose your reply.

It seems like there are way fewer posts, too. People don’t feel like posting on this site. I don’t.

I like the avatars, but they are sort of distracting. I need to get a good picture of my dog, I guess. If I keep using the site, which is in doubt, because I am not having fun doing it right now.

If I hover over the date stamp, I get a pop box with date and time.
Hunt, If I go direct from this page to Parents Forum or Latest Posts (links on left,) I get the featured and pinned posts first, but the others are in order of most recent first. What confuses, I think, is those pinned posts, taking up space. So right now, there is one pinned at the top of the list-- last comment Nov 2013.

JHS, I don’t lose replies I am composing unless I save them as drafts, then go delete the draft. I can right click on a link and get a pop up that includes “open in new link.” And still come back to these words.

Anyway, @teriwtt, I get inconsistent results for clicking on the thread title.

There are a lot of “new” features that I do NOT like here but the instant Facebook posting of individual’s posts needs to be Eliminated Immediately. This site is meant to promote serious discussions about some topics which could be considered “sensitive”. Many People do not want linkages to Facebook as an option. Yes, we all know that you could cut and paste a post, but now you are making it easier and legitimizing the use to Facebook all at once.
I will use the new function here and ask that you “Like” my post if you want to get rid of the Facebook option and ask the administrators take our requests seriously.

Hmmm… thanks for sharing that. I didn’t know about that one.

I was just able to get on today – kept getting an error message when clicking on the forum – so I haven’t read through this thread but, in just reading this page, I echo (LOUDLY!) the sentiment about the white space and coloring on the page. Way too hard on the eyes. The second most irritating thing I’ve encountered is that, when I click on a link in a thread, it doesn’t open a new page like it used to. I keep closing what I think is a separate page when I’m done with the link only to close out of CC altogether. I’m not a programmer but watched one work once and that function was literally just clicking a box (open links in new winder–yes? no?). PLEASE make that change!

I know change is hard and I’m sure the update was made for a reason so I’ll try to keep an open mind but I sure am missing the good ol’ days (as in 4 days ago)!

Latest Posts now doesn’t list where the post resides. I used to ignore if it’s in a forum I am not interested in, like College Life or High School Life.

Biggest pain point for me is that the email subjects now contain the poster’s username. This prevents my mail program (gmail), and probably others, from grouping the emails. As a result, instead of one collection of emails per thread I am subscribed to (bookmarked in the new parlance), I see 10. Or 50. It’s a PITA to clean out of my mailbox. And I really don’t care if 50 people have replied since I was last there. I only care that there was one. At least if they are grouped, I only see one in my mailbox unless I expand it, and I can delete them all with one click.

There’s a lot of wasted vertical space - this could be tightened up by 1) leaving less space between the separator and the words at both top and bottom, 2) having the poster’s member title only once; 3) shrink the avatar size - 160x160 pixels is too large; 4) Move the Flag/Like/Helpful/f icons to a column on the right side of the post; 5) get rid of fixed-width and let me have as wide a window as I want.

For example - gmail has a “Density” setting with three selections - Comfortable, Cozy, and Compact - that let me control white space in the vertical direction.

Hopefully this will be improved over time. Right now I can’t see more than 3 or 3.5 replies on my screen once, even if they are 1 line of text.

The background color and font size can be fixed using my browser’s built-in functions or an add-on. So don’t care that much about that.

How to link without embedding video?

Let’s see:

[url=<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube]- YouTube;

Is that what you are trying to do?

You have to use the long form of a link:

{url=ttp://<a href=“- YouTube”>www.youtube.com/watch?v=G24KeZQ_-7M}ttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G24KeZQ_-7M{/url}

Substitute for { }, and put http in the links instead of ttp, I had to change it so it didn’t embed the video.

Bring back the noparse tag, it would make showing this a lot easier!

@notrichenough, I agree with all your points. I usually use 120x120 for thumbnails. I don’t mind the fixed width, but everything could be tightened up. The member name could be red, instead of the " edit" message and the bottom senior member could be replaced with the previous location data everyone had. I know you can adjust the font size yourself, but in general it is alittle weak for people who don’t want to adjust.I don’t mind the gray icons at the bottom of each post - by the way FB has a “new” icon that is solid and doesn’t have the horizontal vignette at the bottom.

Hmm… doughill isn’t back today? Is there a thread someplace where admins are responding to our questions?
