While We Were Sleeping - Upgrade

I have bookmarked one thread; but overall I now find the interface hard to use; to me it seems cluttered while, at the same time, far fewer threads to see on a page so harder to find my way around (as others have noted). It’s just less fun to surf/browse. Well, my kids are both out of college anyway. So all I really need access to is one my one bookmarked thread…

One thing I do like, when I write out a post, but then accidentally close that window before posting, I can open it back up again & it is still there!
But still the red edit is very distracting.

Yep, bit if you erase the typing on purpose…it’s also still there. Love your evolving avatars, btw.

I will admit that I am illiterate when it comes to Face Book. I appreciate the long response but it does not easily answer my question.
I am not on Face Book but I understand that anyone who is can pick up a post (without my name even perhaps) and post on their own page.
Please is this a yes or a no?

It is a yes, but anyone has ALWAYS had the ability to do that. It’s just that in the old system, you would have had to have cut and pasted a link into FB and now you can do with one click.

Anyone could have posted your posts on FB then. It’s just more obvious now.

@lookingforward You can remove a draft from your drafts page:
Q: What is a draft?
The new forum software will automatically save a draft when you are typing a response to prevent lost content. You can also click Save Draft to for a draft to be saved while posting.

Q: How do I delete a draft?
Once you have a draft saved, the left hand navigation will contain a Drafts link. Click the Drafts link to view all drafts you have saved currently. You can hover over (or click on in the mobile theme) the draft you would like to delete and an “X” will display to the right hand side of the screen. You can click this “X” to delete the selected draft.

College Confidential Privacy Policy
We believe in a simple, plain language privacy policy. Most of our resources are accessible without furnishing any data at all. Some resources and services may require our providing an e-mail address or other information. We won’t spam you - every mailing we send has opt-out information right in the message. We won’t furnish your e-mail address or name to third parties without your specific permission.

As for the ads on our site, we use google ads and sponsored ads for certain sections of the forum, but none of your data is ever given out.

Doug is done with us. dbraud is up to bat.

@oldfort I just wake up earlier ;)

I just followed the above directions to delete a draft (on my IPad). Easy to do, but while I could easily go from this thread to “my drafts” to delete them, when I was finished I was no longer connected to this thread. I had to navigate back to the cafe, and back to the end of this thread. Too much navigating makes the new CC clunky to use.

Clunky navigation = Less likely to spend casual time on the site.

@romanigypsyeyes We had expected to launch with our mobile app working for the site. We encountered a performance issue with the way it integrated with our forum software vendor. This is currently being worked on with our forum software vendor.

We have been making notes on the feedback for the mobile theme and do plan to make changes based on that feedback.

@doughill, and now, @dbraud I never use a “remember me” feature for any site. My laptop, our desktop computer and my IPad are frequently shared among members of the family. It is a privacy issue, both for our family members, and because I don’t want any site to be connected to me in that way. My IPhone … Well, until the entire CC phone experience improves considerably I am not even trying to access CC on my phone. It isn’t worth it in terms of wasted time. I would tell you the post number I am referring to, but there is no way to do that. ;)

There is a part of me that resents CC administrators advising me that a solution to CC navigation problems, problems that exist only as a result of changes CC made, is for me to change the way I access the site.

CC is a nice place, but it isn’t important enough for me to struggle with for very long. Changes to a site like the Common App or the IRS (places that I have to use and figure out) are one thing. Changes to a “nice but not necessary” site are something different all together. Make it too difficult, and people will stop hanging around.

@eastcoastcrazy Thank you for feedback on the draft deletion process.

While we are being given assurances that suggestions from this forum are being considered for improvements, I have a question. Do the students in other forum areas have different suggestions? Do they perhaps WANT more integration with FB and other social media? Are they not very concerned with privacy? And are they also being assured that their suggestions are going to be prioritized?

There is a difference between administrators (paid) and moderators (volunteer). We are getting answers from administrators. Are the administrators listening to (reading) the suggestions from moderators? These volunteers are very important to your site. After all, they are volunteers, and without them this might become a pay site. True? So what do the moderators say about all the changes? (Or are they under a gag order, like they are/were in other places?) Maybe I’ve missed it, since I’m not following every post on every thread about the changes. But have any moderators posted?

@CTTC The moderators are very important to our site and we greatly appreciate their efforts. We do have a feedback channel for the moderators and are working on their suggestions/needs.

Well, I’m generally OK with things, and I’m still on here as much as before. (Sadly, that might be because I don’t have much of a life . . . ) Anyway, good luck to the administrators, and I’ll be around for the long term. Other posters are too much fun for me to leave them all behind.

I really am trying to get used to the new set-up. I’m a pretty accommodating person and don’t expect not to be inconvenienced when things change. But I’m just not enjoying CC as much - it seems to me that fewer threads are being posted in the Parent forums, fewer responses are being written, and the posters I most enjoy are less active. This is a big disappointment, because CC has been my online refuge for more than 10 years.

I hope our concerns about the new look, site functionality, and confidentiality can be addressed. I’m really, really going to miss CC if it doesn’t recover what made it special in the past.

I need a dislike button. Overall I find these changes to be awkward and difficult to navigate. I, too, will be spending less time here.

I very much miss the ability to easily see other posts before I respond to a poster. I know I can click on their profile, and view replies…but if THIS forum looks unorganized to anyone, THAT is even worse! The drop down menu that used to be available made sending PMs, and seeing other posts so much easier and efficient.

To be honest, I’m concerned that the new software vendor wasn’t able to anticipate some of these issues before the rollout. For example, it didn’t take a genius to figure out that having everyone automatically notified via email about EVERY post on a thread they posted on would create a huge mess. THANK you for at least, addressing that ASAP.

I am not having any trouble posting or finding posts. But I do agree, the font is an issue, and the background color very stark and annoying. And I do believe the overall ease of use of this site has been removed with this update.

And I hate that there just isn’t a “delete” key for drafts and posts.

Since no one likes the all white background, why don’t you change that? That would at least help those of us with older eyes.
