While We Were Sleeping - Upgrade

Too bad posts aren’t numbered. Four posts above this, Moody provides a link that IS an excellent status update. Please take the time to read what he wrote. It explains what they are working on.

I’m hoping he will post another update in 4-5 days to let us know the progress.

The link Thumper1 referred to offers more information than we have been given prior to this time. It is worth finding.

I find it amusing that the link took me to the first page of the thread, and then I had to go to the last page of the thread to find the post. It wasn’t a direct link to the post itself. And as time goes on, that post will be lost in the pages of that thread, with no way for anyone to easily point a way to find it (because the posts are not numbered). Even last night, when I read it, the relevant post was buried several posts back from the end of the thread.

You can link directly to specific posts:

<a href=“New Year, New Look for College Confidential! - #201 by CC_Sorin - College Confidential Community - College Confidential Forums”>New Year, New Look for College Confidential! - #201 by CC_Sorin - College Confidential Community - College Confidential Forums;

On FireFox, if you right-click on the date in the post and select “Copy Link location”, you get a link that will take you right to the post. I assume there is something similar for other browsers.

Perhaps @moody208 doesn’t know this.

Thanks NRE - I can confirm that your suggestion works for IE.

For IE, if you right-click on the date in the post and select “Copy Shortcut”, you get the link for the specific post.

Moody’s post should be put in a sticky at top of this topic.

Well, that seems to work in Chrome as well. (On Mac, two finger push on the trackpad, select copy address while on the date stamp.)

Nifty NRE. You might consider starting a new thread “How to link to specific posts” for the edification of others.

I think NRE should start a new thread with all his suggestions for how to make CC work better the way it is currently configured!

Slowly getting used to the new format. Can’t wait for the app development to be complete. While the mobile website is “ok”, I can’t wait to get the full functionality back. I live off my smart phone, so “ok” CC is better than no mobile CC…

Maybe this has been covered, but I used to screen threads where I might be useful by searching on a particular word from a particular time interval- like a day ago.
And I used to find a topic from one of my old posts, when I thought something from it might be useful to a current discussion. by searching on a word from a period from [a week ago, year ago, or whatever] and previous. I don’t know how to do those searches anymore, in the new system.

But really, I don’t know how to do hardly anything now.

@monydad - Next to the search box at the very top of the page (where it says “Search forum”) is a little inverted triangle. If you click on the triangle, you get a menu, and one of the choices is “Advanced Forum Search”. If you select this, you can use time ranges, specify particular forums, search for a particular user, etc.

My gosh, stop piling on the admins. Things will be fixed when they are fixed. Sheesh.

A positive: at least we can click on the subject and get NEW posts!!! I love that. It used to drive me nuts to try to find where I last was reading in CC.

Romani, how do you do that quoting?

same as before, (quote) text (/quote) but use [ and ] in place of ( and ).

^Thanks, but I’m old and never knew how to do that to begin with. LOL.

LOL. It took me a while to figure out how to describe it. The way we used to show people doesn’t work anymore.

Thank you, @Moody and the team. Gives me perspective.

Moody’s link took me directly to his post. But apparently not for all of you?
I also can’t do what some of you can. That alone tells me this isn’t as simple as taking any few posters as speaking for the whole. Eg, no issue with my font, the white is not blinding me.

Va, when I click on the first post in a thread (is that what you mean by ‘subject’,) I get to my own last post, which could be days old.

@lookingforward, I actually updated the link after seeing @notrichenough’s comment, so that’s why it is working fine now. Btw, thanks @notrichenough, great insight! I did not think about that when I first posted.

Every time I’ve posted this week, I get an error message saying that there was an error completing your request, please try again. So, I click the post button again and it works that time. It’s annoying, though. Not sure why this is happening, other than perhaps it’s punishment for my previous complaining? Haha.
