While We Were Sleeping - Upgrade

I read Roger Dooley’s post from last week. He said they really do not want excessive quoting going on here by posters, as it becomes an unfriendly posting experience.

I agree with that. There are forums where everyone quotes everyone else’s quotes and it’s all nested, and it becomes a huge hassle to scroll down to read the whole thing multiple times to find a one liner “Agree” at the bottom.

I think there’s a step in-between a quote button which quotes everything, and a completely manual process where you have to select, copy, enter the quote codes, and paste.

For example, a quote button could quote only what is selected, and could have a character limit of 500 or so characters. If you want a bigger quote, then you have to do it manually.

Right click on the thread title such as While we were sleeping…open in a new window and it takes you to the first new (for you) post. Love it.

Which works great for those using a mouse.

Clicking the time in the “Most Recent” column will also take you to the latest post. Don’t know if that will work on a tablet or phone.

But we may not want the last post, but the last we read. Will try the r click later when on my laptop. Thx

I’ve searched, but can’t find if anybody has asked this question: The time stamp on the posts seems to be way off unless we’re logged in. The time stamp just before mine read somewhere around 2:50 p.m. After I logged in, now it reads 9:55 a.m. which is way closer to the actual time. Does this happen to anybody else?

3bm, I would assume the boards default time zone and yours are different. So when you log on, it switches to what you have set instead of the default. That’s pretty typical.

That is what I meant. That is what it does.

Oh, man, nre. Counter-intuitive. Tried it on a thread I haven’t visited in ages, now 32 pages. The last actual post was 11:38. I click on that time and get to what seems to be my last stopping point, 6 pages earlier. Nothing to do with 11:38. Hopefully this will work, going forward. Thx.

Really? What time zone are they in that is five hours ahead of EST? Or 19 hours behind? GMT maybe?

If you look at the source code of this page you will see this they are storing times internally in GMT:

They could drop a cookie on your computer if they wanted and be able to display the local time even if you aren’t logged in, but they haven’t chosen to do that.

You can see they could also easily display the entire date and time instead of being tricksy and converting it into something less and less precise as the post ages, but hey… tricksy is cool.

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I don’t have time to catch up with all the hundreds of posts.

I do not see a way to delete private messages. What am I missing?

Nrdsb4, you can email an administrator to delete the messages that show up on your profile (those are visitor messages, not private ones). Lenitus could do it for you.

Maine, I appreciate that. However, I really just want to completely clean out my private messages, and I don’t see any way to do that, which strikes me as really strange. Are they working on that?

The visitor messages are not really a major concern. PMs are. Especially ones long thought to have been discarded by system. They have been stored. Not deleted.

If you want a temporary fix on an ipad for whiteness issue, go to settings -general - accessibility. You can invert your colors. They are weird, but far less painful than the white screen. For me, at least.

I am sorry if this has already been addressed but I do not want to read 62 pages. What tells me I have already posted on a thread? It used to be a red star.

Oh, and how do you know what # post you or anyone else is?
