While We Were Sleeping - Upgrade

Testing out this new format. Not sure I like the posting on FB of anybody’s posts, but nothing is private on the internet. I’m liking all the avatars. New emoticons! Not that I know what all of them mean. 8-}

I wish they hadn’t changed it. Other than a pretty lame search feature (you couldn’t search a user by a specific topic, such as “xiggi” “ACT”), it was robust and enjoyable. Not, now so much. I guess I get warned now, but just had to say what I think most of us feel. The site has simply become much more difficult to use, no doubt because the technology wants to track us more. This almost rivals the “Turfmonster” disaster in Dallas a few years ago, where a perfectly enjoyable and functional and active soccer comment community got unilaterally transitioned over to a registered chat board format so that the site could target ads better. The site died a rapid death as no one wanted to spend the time to re-train themselves for the benefit of the owners of the site. You would think before making wholesale changes that the mods would just have started a thread asking the community “what’s wrong with our site? How do we make it better?” A white background color change would probably be way, way down anyone’s list. Sad. I am whistling past the graveyard; so very sad.

I was playing with the editing function. It doesn’t look like we can delete anymore?

Nope, penny. They said they’re looking into it.

Thanks Romani. Cute dog!

Can someone answer this … Can anyone link your posts on FB, or is it just you linking your own stuff? I would hate to think that others would link others’ comments to FB …

Interesting about deleting posts. I just tried to delete by going into edit and erasing what I had written. Couldn’t’t save (makes sense I guess).

I am trying my best to keep an open mind about the new format. But so far, I’m leaning towards leaving this addictive sight and getting my life back.

Like:
easier to subscribe to / bookmark a thread
more time to edit a post

Dislike:
too much white space
font too small and hard to read
can’t subscribe to a sub-forum (a particular university)
posts are no longer numbered
missing join date / location for members

Thank you

As it is set up now, you can link anyone’s post.

No bueno. And the lurking begins …

thinking about all the time I will have avoiding this sight now. Mega dislike…

It even hurts just to lurk :frowning:

I meant I WANT to be able to change the size & type of font.
It is very uncomfortable to read as is.

I’m really, really trying not to be an old fuddy duddy as my kids complain, but I greatly dislike these new format. For one, I had to change computers because it does not work on my other one. Count me in as hating the white. I also miss the post count. How are we supposed to tell someone what post we are referring to? I’ve only been here 10 minutes and figuring out that I’m going to be here way less often. And yeah: a button that says “edit” would be way more helpful than some circle that you have to guess the purpose of. And what about the “join date” It was useful for knowing how longer people have been here.

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood. I was hoping you found a secret serif font somewhere.

Wait. Is it true that now people can easily post threads on Facebook? Other people!'s posts- not just their own?
Why would they put a feature like that? It makes everything so much more public. I don’t even have a Facebook account nor do I want to be posted there. Can we opt out?

Threads I post on are really long and now they start with the first page instead of most recent. To see what is new, I would need to scroll through 100 or 1000 pages to get to the recent posts? I know I waste time on this site, but the amount of time that would take is ridiculous.

I seriously love all the dogs.

yes moonchild - it looks that way. I just clicked the FB icon under your post and it was all ready to put it on my page. Of course I didn’t but I can see this being a HUGE issue. :open_mouth:
