OOS Nursing ACCEPTED with scholarship!!!
35 ACT
3.94UW/4.09 W (HS doesn’t weight honors and barely weights AP)
6 AP/5 honors classes
Year round sport - played since kindergarten
Many ECs, with leadership
Volunteers at hospital
Sorry, congratulations what major if you don’t mind me asking
No worries at all, history. The acceptances and deferrals are all over the place and make no sense.
I do think he’d be top 10% but ??? Hard to know - private school, doesn’t like to rank because it is against the school’s philosophy (along with no graduation cords - might leave people out. ).
2.89 weighted/2.89 UW, no AP, No honors, 20 ACT - OOS. Deferred! What do you think her odds are of acceptance? Did Anyone get rejected? Or do they defer everyone they don’t accept? Trying to figure out how good she can feel.
In with merit! OOS, Psych major, 4.0 UW, 11 APs, 1460 SAT, good ECs
OOS deferred. Not esp high stats. Applies to sports management.
Does Clemson reject or is deferral a polite rejection sometimes?
Sounds like it’s a way for them to do a more holistic review of the application. So basically they want to take a better look. I liken it to them seeing something interesting but they need to dig deeper. I do it with a large pool of resumes I move the “interesting” ones into a review bucket, keep reviewing, and then go back and spend more time with the candidate’s profile. Helps get through large batches.
Do they reject anyone for EA? Just wondering how hopeful to be at this point.
I saw a couple earlier in the thread.
Clemson doesn’t yield protect.
Ok thanks. Too many posts for me to have caught up on tonight! Lol
Congrats! Where do you see merit? I assume in the letter itself. My son has similar stats (OOS, 4.0 uw, 11 APs, 1490 SAT 34 ACT) but I see no mention of merit. So I’m guessing he got none.
I would agree. Seems like the big schools look at certain data points and go from there. If you are above, you are admitted, the rest are deferred to RD. I believe this happened at IU, Penn St and Clemson based on my son’s experience. Seems like the holistic approach really happens in the RD phase. My older son was deferred 2 years ago and got in RD. His grades and test scores were fine but we were told he had great essay and LOR plus good ECs, which I believe really helped. My senior has two friends last year who were deferred and admitted in RD. A deferral is definitely not a soft rejection.
Daughter Accepted!!

Only school we’ve heard back from so far, hopefully this will make waiting for the others a little easier
Of course my son got this email from UofSC (I know, I know) right after I hit send about their decision making process. Decisions come out Tuesday.
“Decisions may include acceptances, deferrals and denials. Students admitted during Early Action are competitive applicants who present above average academic credentials. Those deferred will go through an extended review period so additional factors may be considered, such as personal circumstances, extracurricular activities and the personal essay.”
Wonder what above average academic credentials are these days?
It says in the acceptance letter. Something to the effect of “your qualifications stand out and you will be offered a merit scholarship. You will receive a financial aid offer, including scholarship info, by late March.” Not an exact quote.
It is the third paragraph of my sons letter.
