We have a Junior at Auburn and a high school senior daughter headed to a different SEC school next year. Auburn is just, well, Auburn. It is SOOO hard to describe, but you’re right, a truly special place. We were hoping our daughter would follow in his footsteps, but she likes to plow her own path! WAR EAGLE!!

poor Man’s Clemson without a Lake. If you know you know. And this is a Clemson thread by the way. I have never heard an employer ask which “SEC” school did you attend. Meant in good fun!

Clemson does not consider DI.

If deferred, is it worth switching to a major that is less competitive at this point? Or has that ship sailed?

I think you have until the 10th of January.

If not admitted for the first choice major, they will consider the student for the second choice major. So that is the back-up. It is not advised to select 2 closed majors as choice 1 and 2.

Indicating yes to summer start does improve chances.

I think she put a limited major as her 2nd choice: communications. Any idea of which majors that are “open” since Marketing is her first choice? Thank you.

These are the closed majors:

  • Communication.
  • Construction science and management.
  • Health science (all concentrations).
  • Language and international health.
  • Nursing.
  • Sports communication.

Thank you!

Thank you. Not much left is there? English, history etc.

What’s the difference between a closed major and restricted major? I see the definition for restricted major (subject to space restrictions) and I thought that was the same rationale for closed majors? (Maybe just because my kid is Construction Science & Mgmt and I figured it was a problem of having enough equipment/space for them, but that doesn’t seem like it would be the same rationale as for, communication for example.)

Agree. I thought the verbiage around Restricted sounds like what closed would be.

It’s my understanding the closed majors are very competitive and have a VERY limited number of spots when entering the program, for example Nursing may have ~175 spots for the program because of limited clinical space. Restricted majors are competitive and accept up until classrooms & professors are maxed out across the whole program. They evaluate it regularly and adjust accordingly, but accept a greater number of students than closed; the stat thresholds are higher than other majors.

Closed majors are majors that are temporarily unavailable due to enrollment limitations, while restricted majors have specific eligibility requirements.

What is “all concentrations” of health sciences mean? Can someone give me an example? Is this a Bio major?

Anyone know if you applied for one of the restricted majors and were deferred, will they reject you outright if space runs out, or admit you but not into your preferred major?

Can you change your application and accept summer start if that will help acceptance? Don’t know if my daughter will go for it, but just curious
