Do you know which school/s that was for at Rutgers? Heard from Arts & Sciences, waiting on the Business school (and I know a bunch of others that are waiting for the business school).
THIS is my question. If my kid was really supposed to be deferred, fine. But Iām not ok if she was deferred because of some error and her application was missed.
Defer issued 1/21. OH resident. Filled EA first day allowed to submit. Every other top college (in/out state) was direct admit to Business school with nice merit scholarships. OSU was first choice, so now we wait until end of March. This is ridiculous for EA students to have to wait that long to get yes or no
OSU admin office should stop leading kids on. Pick one date and time to announce and let everyone know that. Take a page from the playbooks of Illinois or Georgia (among, Iām sure many others). Stop causing emotional distress and deferring students that are more than qualified just because they couldnāt get to all of the apps (have to assume thatās what it is given that a handful of my sonās friends with stellar numbers and over qualified got deferred).
My OOS D22 and three others at her high school in NJ were accepted on 1/21 in the business school. I didnāt hear of any rejections or deferrals other than one girl who was deferred back in Dec. from her high school but the kids donāt really talk about it either!
Not sure if its school specific. From my understanding its for the Rutgers New Brunswick campus so I assume it can be any college/school. All the best to your student!
If deferred is there any chance the student would hear before March 31? It says itās rolling but wasnāt sure if anything comes out sooner.
couldnāt agree with you more-
they just did not have time to review all appsā¦
Hopefully they will review deferred EA applications first?
Hi. My son was admitted to OSU on 1/21 for fall 2022. He has not received any merit scholarship news yet, but is sure he wants to attend. I recently heard that housing is based on order of acceptance fee received. If we pay the $100 non-refundable acceptance fee now, will that hurt his chances for merit scholarships since he will already be committed?
Historically, merit decisions have come around mid-February. Honors decisions will also be known by then, which may impact choice of housing. Waiting two to three weeks is unlikely to make much of a difference in housing preference.
No. If he is interested in going there I would absolutely send in the deposit!
Iāve been hearing this too about the deposit - but isnāt this technically āacceptingā the offer at OSU? Daughter is interested, but still waiting on a number of schools so wonāt have the full picture until April. Does this mean un-airconditioned dorms for her? Seems wrong somehow.
We are in the same boat. Son needs a few weeks to decide. How many un-air conditioned dorms are there? Is it a small percentage or a large percentage? Being from Oklahoma, not having air conditioning seems like the craziest thing ever! Iām thinking we should just send the deposit, just in case.
we sent a deposit on 12/11 to OSU and at other schools my daughter is seriously interested (depending upon whether the housing queue is determined by deposit date). In some cases you can put a housing deposit down before accepting the admission offer, which is what we did elsewhere. If it is not too much $, it might be worth saving a spot in the queueā¦just in caseā¦
Does it makes sense to pay any deposit before merit has been awarded? My daughterās friend did that and my daughter thinks she is crazy. It seems like the school would be less likely to offer merit to someone who already seems to be locked in.
Can you put down a housing deposit before you have been accepted?
Similar. Accepted Biochemistry (OSU, MSU, Miami and waiting until 3/14 for the reach). My S22 is trying to weigh the value of the combined degree in 4 yrs at Miami vs. the R1/school ranking of OSU. OSU is a research university and Miami is considered a teaching university. Great to have choices.
Similar to my S22 (OOS CA). Accepted Neuroscience/Psych to Miami (OH), MSU HC, OSU Scholars program (Bio). Weāve never visited any of these schools and they are currently all top of list. Weāre planning to visit over spring break, but having a hard time comparing! Heās leaning toward OSU, but that could easily change with more info!
