Ohio State Class of 2026 Admission

Agreed. I thought for almost all schools, being deferred to RD meant your application would be reviewed again with RD applications. This almost feels like a waitlist.

My son was accepted EA in December (in-state). He got a letter on Saturday offering the Maximus at $3,000/year.

In state Daughter was accepted in December, Honors about 3 weeks ago, and got her merit award late last week.

It really does feel like a waitlist. I was holding on to the fact that somehow they just couldn’t get to those applications in time, but if they are specifically leaving those for last, then that feels like their are rejections or waitlists. I don’t think I will tell my daughter that part :woman_facepalming:

My son’s counselor talked to someone in admissions and was told that the large number of deferrals were due to OSU not having enough people to thoughtfully review applications. With that in mind, it is disheartening to think that deferred EA students would have to wait until March. I still may have my son check on the 18th. I don’t know.

Son accepted in December. Never heard a word on Honors but received his merit aid Friday. He got the Provost and National Buckeye. Received the max on the National Buckeye and $2000 for Provost. Isn’t it odd he would not have heard from Homors?

I just called admissions and financial aid. They told me it’s totally random when people get their merit awards. Could happen all the way into Middle of March (ugh), but if you get your financial aid package without any merit
.then most likely there has been no merit awarded.

Thank you for asking! My daughter will cross it off the list without merit, so I was wondering if it was time to do so or if she should wait. I appreciate knowing the answer.

Why ? Did she receive financial
Aid package from them already ?

No, we won’t get any financial aid. I was starting to wonder if all merit had gone out and would tell her, if that’s the case. But it sounds like there is still some time.

Gotcha! I see what you mean. I know, it feels like all the other schools have given mine merit so far except OSU and Penn State. The wait is brutal !

My daughter applied and was accepted into 8 schools. She has merit scholarships so far from all but OSU (which is, of course, her top choice). Hoping to hear something soon.

My kid, too! Unless she hears from Syracuse with some financial aid. But she doesn’t find out from them until the end of March. OOS OSU is not doable for us without a minimum of $10,000 which most of the other schools have surpassed. I hope we both hear soon!

I suspect Honors are rolling on the same “as we get to them, no priority” sequence.

Fwiw, my D22, 4.0/1st of 600+/1580 has heard nothing regarding Honors. She was admitted to Honors at Purdue and Maryland.

My daughter applied in late September, she was deferred the week following Jan 21st along with everyone else. This is not a good look for OSU!

Really surprised it happened and really surprised we still haven’t received a decision by now
my son had his application materials completed in Sept as well. He had higher stats, EC, etc
than his two older bothers who applied in previous years and were given merit $ and honors/scholars placement. I’m guessing since this seemingly large group of EA kids that were tossed into the regular admissions pool without a review that they will miss out on merit and honors/scholars opportunities as well–is that correct? I have to say I am shocked that the kids that did everything they needed to do to put their best foot forward to meet the given deadlines are not given a fair review or even priority to hear back sooner rather than later in the regular admissions pool. I think most of us can understand mistakes happen when dealing with a larger pool of applicants this year, but just tossing them into the regular pool without any explanation and, I’m assuming, not even being reviewed for EA things like merit and honors/scholars is really disappointing. My son, like most of these kids, is starting to get excited about other universities that have been able to deal with the deluge of applications from this year
wondering why they haven’t handled this better.

I agree- it is not a good look and OSU’s reputation has taken a beating at my D22"s school because of it

Does anyone know if you submit a deposit to osu can you uncommitt if something happens?

UW-Madison basically did the same thing. My kid got in to OSU and deferred from Madison. In any other year, I believe they would have gotten in. Out of 115 students who applied from their school, 5 were accepted. Normally close to half the applicants get in. They have all over-enrolled the last couple years.

If you had told me that my daughter would apply in October and still wouldn’t know where she was going until April, I would have never believed it. I’m starting to feel like RD is the way to go. EA hasn’t really worked out for us this year and it doesn’t seem to be any advantage. Looking back, I think I would tell her to spread out her applications and not try to kill herself in the first semester.
