Test-optional

Out of curiosity, what state? Those are ridiculously good stats to not get anything. And what major?

If you want to be considered for Merit Awards you have to apply in the early round.
This from the admissions page:
"Freshmen admitted to the Columbus campus for autumn semester are automatically considered for most merit awards if we received their complete admission applications by our November 1 early action deadline. "

We are OOS and my DD got merit awards/ applied in October. (She did submit her SAT scores)

Emailed morrill scholars for those interested, it’s rolling to the end as we know but they’ll send a decision by the 31st either way

Mine did! She was accepted December 10. Applied Early October and was accepted to the scholars program a month ago. Who knows. I’m sure there’s obviously test optional kids to get it, but it does seem the majority are still with the test scores. I mean even when he tried to do the net calculator, it won’t even give you merit scholarship on there unless you submit your score. All the other schools we do the calculator for, don’t have that.

@singergirl7777 - Sounds like your kid and my kid are in a very similar situation with similar stats!

Are you OOS as well? Will you be walking away from OSU or paying full price ? I’m really trying to encourage her to go to a school that really values her, but I also understand feeling like you belong somewhere. It’s tough.

Maybe as lots kids who used OSU as a safety officially withdraw their apps maybe they will award more money to others. Not sure how their process works though.

They told me no reallocation. Kind of silly, right?

OOS but no merit aid!

It’s not silly when you think about how they award merit. It’s similar to accepting more students than will attend. With merit, they award more than they have knowing that not everyone will accept/attend.

It’s another fairly sophisticated calculation where they are trying to distribute in the end exactly how much they have. They don’t want to leave money in the pot, because that would mean they didn’t get desirable students to enroll. For obvious reasons, they also don’t want to be in a situation where they have kids accept more money than they have.

We’re OOS (CA), and unfortunately OSU will be financially out of reach without the merit aid. My S22 has several good offers from other schools and waiting on RD decisions/“coupons”, but OSU is his #1 for the schools he’s been accepted at thus far. It’s a big bummer. OSU is the only school that hasn’t offered any merit aid (except the deferral from Tulane :() Where else is your daughter considering? I completely agree with you about going to a school who values her - I say the same to my boy.

That’s funny, my daughter was also Deferred from tuLane. But I don’t think they could give enough to be able to afford the $80,000. Penn State, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, Indiana University and probably her top choice is Syracuse after Ohio State… But she applied regular decision and hasn’t heard yet. All the rest, are within financial reach at this point. She Got into many other schools, but they were her safety schools and has taken them off the list. I really wish she would consider Ohio University. It would be essentially free and they have her exact program. She just finds it too far. We will see how she feels after she sees Penn State and Syracuse next week. Illinois makes the most sense of course since we are in Chicago. It would be the cheapest and the chemistry department is in the top 20 in the country. That would make too much sense, right? Lol

Where else does your son want to consider? My kid did apply to Berkeley and Stanford, but obviously those are extreme reaches  And we all know the issues Berkeley is having.

Whats wrong with Berkeley?

Oh, bummer. It always says feels like a wild card with getting into higher schools. Waiting on a deferral from Harvard right now!
